My current regular mattress has seen better days, and it looks like you can get some good deals on the web. Personally, I love them...but they get super-hot during the summer because they kind of wrap around your body.I sleep like a baby - but be prepared to spend a few extra bucks for a liner to keep you cooler during nights like tonight. Not sure I'd buy one online - you spend 1/3 of your life in bed doing various things - they have different tops and different levels of firmness - not something I'd want to buy online - but that's just me.BTW - memory foam pillows = awesome too! That's a good cheaper option and you still get plenty of the memory foamy goodness. I have one and I love it. Dan is right though, it gets me too hot on the summer even with the ac running. I bought mine online by the way and have no regrets. I got mine last November. I have one and love it. It's worth every penny. Oh, but I can only recommend the TempurPedic. I don't know about the knock-offs.

I have one of the Serta ones, I forget which.  One of my friends had a pillow-top mattress and I loved her bed, but when she came over for a "test drive" of mine I could never get her out of it.  One time she ditched school and decided to come to my house so she have some "sound sleep".  Even my ex said he'd ditch his king size bed for my queen size, just because the mattress was better.  I definitely agree though, you have to test them out.  While I didn't buy a really expensive one, I also didn't go with one of the cheap ones because of how it felt.  Unlike a few other people, I've never felt hot, but then again I have some really nice sheets and a mattress cover that I feel might help with that.  If you've found some on the web, see if you can find them in stores anywhere and go check them out.  Plus, you never know but the store might have an even better deal.  I was about to pay a few hundred more for mine without a box spring (which I've found useful considering the bed frame I bought) when I stopped in next door and found the same mattress for a much better deal going off sale that same day.

I have a MiForma mattress from Back to Bed. I love it, and it doesn't get warm. The company is also eco-friendly. Also, like John S.'s girlfriend, it has helped my back problems a lot. I had spinal surgery in November which is why I got this mattress and it's so much better than one with springs.i loved it, but took me a while to get used to it. i slept better before than i do now, using a spring mattress. had to sell it bc i moved back up here.I've been wondering the same thing!A few more questions for those of you that have one:-mattress covers and sheets: do these reduce the "bodyform" quality of the mattresses? Do you have to buy proprietary ones or will standard do? @Dan - which mattress cover succeeds in keeping you cool?-anyone have any problem with sagging? We bought our Serta pillow-top mattress new about 7 years ago and it was NOT cheap. Within about 3 years we started noticing "dents" on our respective sides of the bed. When we bought it we were assured that we would never have to "flip" it (it's a pillow-top on only one side).

Liars.-any difference between having a box spring or not with these things? Suggestions on bed frames?-what's the "useful life" on these things supposed to be? I generally take that # and cut it in half.I bought one of those memory foam toppers after 3 years of having our mattress...no good after about 6 months :( The Tempur Pedic mattresses are awesome.  But they are an investment, plus the visco-elastic can feel too firm to some people.  I purchased a knock-off "memory foam" mattress, no coils just all foam, because I was too cheap to buy the real thing.  It was garbage, sagging after 6 months, not quality foam.... I knew this b/c could not jump on my bed while a glass of wine was on it, and that makes or breaks it for me :o)I would recommend either the Tempur Pedic or to buy a regular mattress with a memory foam top, Serta by Vera Wang are great.  A pillow top on a regular mattress will compress over time and can't be flipped, so logically it makes more sense to buy a regular mattress then add your own toppers to it, pads, foam, etc. because the life will be extended.

"Pillow top" has the most upholstery added on. @ Christmas:  I know my mattress came with a 20-year-warranty provided there are no stains, hence them telling me I should get a mattress protectant (which proved useful when I tripped and spilled a cup of juice on my bed) and while I've only had mine for about 2 years, I haven't noticed any issues with its form.  I know I asked them about flipping mattresses over, and they told me these don't have to be and that any mattress nowadays shouldn't be, which I'm skeptical of......but I haven't flipped mine, mixture of being lazy and the mattress being heavier than it looks.  Also, I have a pair of sheets...I think they're 500 or 600 thread count and I got them at Linens-n-Things...I know people say that thread count doesn't matter over 400?...regardless, even with my mattress protector and sheets I don't notice a difference from when I'm laying on my bed while those things are in the washer.  These also keep me cool, even more so when I have an air conditioner on.

I realized the other day when I was standing on my bed that, while I don't have a TempurPedic, it really doesn't affect the rest of the mattress!  There have also been many times where I've cluttered my bed with books and clothes and slept in the living room and then realized "crap, I'm probably ruining my mattress" only to find that when I do move the stuff, the mattress isn't affected.  At least, it hasn't shown any signs yet. Stains on a mattress always seem to come with some quick yet necessary explanation, Oh I was drinking coffee in bed the other night and a bug flew past me I got scared and I totally spilled my tea!How long have you had your mattress? Haha, hey, I was just stating that those things are legit!  My friends and I have also spilled beer, but in my head, spilling juice seems worse.  I've only had mine for about 2 years, which I know isn't very long, but considering I had a futon prior to this mattress...it really has helped me sleep comfortably since I've had it.

Also, someone recommended memory foam pillows...seriously, this made sleeping even better!  When my ex was here I used to let him have mine so he could have "the full experience", but so far I have zero complaints with mine and I didn't even get a really nice one.  Took me awhile to find the type of pillow I like, but then again it took me awhile to settle on a memory foam.  I know when I was in the store I thought they'd all be similar, but they're not.  You can definitely feel a difference in the really cheap ones. I got one for my Mom and she digs it...says it's like sleeping on a cloud. They are very good indeed. I love my Tempur-Pedic, but Dan's right- spend the extra bucks on the liner, it makes a huge difference. I have a 3" Memory foam topper and I love it. Not sure how a full blown mattress would be, but just the topper alone made a huge difference. always has deals on memory foam items, including mattresses. Not that great for other stuff you do in your bed.

I have had a temperpedic for a little over 5 years now. It is a pretty nice bed. I would advise that you actually get a temperpedic and not one of the knock offs. I know several people that have bough knock off and it definitely isn't the same. Their foam starts to get weird and develops grooves and indentions from where you sleep. I think the lowest priced Queen size is around $2k or more.  Definitely worth it but if you are going to spend that much on a bed even if it isn't memory foam they usually are comfortable. Tempur-Pedics also smell like ass for like three months, due to their "unique manufacturing process".  Be ready for that. That's true, I forgot about that Matt.  It did smell for a while. Mine only smelled for 1-2 days, we love it a lot.  I don't get any hotter on it then I do any other night that I'm sleeping.  They do make kinds with some sort of cooling technology. I accidentally slept with a guy who had one of these MF mattresses.I had a great sleep on it.

It actually comes in a huge box that's shipped FedEx. I was skeptical at first. But this company has great reviews! So we did it. It's still slightly more expensive than a typical spring mattress BUT it's not as expensive as the name brand TempurPedic. Some people say they like this type better than TempurPedic but I can't say one way or another - the only kind I've tried is the Bedinabox one we have. You choose from different firmness, height and you can choose whether or not you want one of their box springs. We loooove the mattress. I don't find that it's hot at all during the summer or winter. It came with a down mattress cover which we use during the winter. The box spring was awful, though. You have to put it together yourself and it just didn't fit together when we tried doing it. We had to have it returned and for them to ship us another. The 2nd box spring was equally as bad. We just had it returned and our money refunded (the customer service was tops also). We currently use our old box spring and it seems to be just fine.
