If you're looking to upgrade your bed with an eco-friendly option, but don't want to replace the mattress, a natural latex topper might just be the ticket.Considering that we spend about a third of our lives in bed, we really should pay close attention to the surface we're sleeping on, not only for comfort's sake, but also for the impact that our choices can have on the natural world.Having a comfortable mattress can be one key to restful sleep, which is an essential part of staying healthy, and while there are a bazillion choices on the market, ranging from bare-bones mattresses to high-end adjustable models, it's not always necessary to replace the entire mattress in order to refresh our beds. Sometimes, a mattress topper is all that's required to bring a whole new level of comfort and support to our nightly slumber, and if you'd like a more eco-friendly option than the uber-popular 'memory foam' toppers, one great choice is a 100% natural latex topper.I'm not going to debate the safety and health issues with memory foam toppers and mattresses here, as it seems to be a contentious topic for those who notice no VOC off-gassing or other adverse effects from their synthetic foam mattress.

We've covered the topic before, and there are plenty of resources on the web for finding out about the potentially toxic ingredients in conventional mattresses, so it really comes down to personal preference (and the individual's level of chemical sensitivity) as to the choice between 'natural' mattresses and synthetic ones. We've always chosen to sleep on a futon rather than a standard mattress, for a variety of reasons (lower price, less potentially toxic materials, firmer support), and it's been a few decades since I've had a conventional mattress, so I'm a bit biased when it comes to bedding. However, one weak point of futons is their tendency to get compacted over time, and what starts out as a soft surface can end up being rather firm after a few years, so when Sleep On Latex asked if I'd be willing to try out one of its Pure Green 100% natural latex mattress toppers, I jumped at the chance.A few weeks ago, the UPS truck rolled up to my house with a rather small box, which I had a hard time believing contained a queen-sized mattress topper.

After opening the box and unwrapping the tightly rolled topper, which quickly expanded to full size, I stripped the sheets off the bed, put the topper on, and re-made it. A quick laying-in session confirmed that indeed, this topper showed promise, but it wasn't until sleeping on it for a few nights that I came to appreciate the comfort and support of this mattress addition. What was previously a very firm futon that we were considering replacing instantly became a wonderfully soft and supportive mattress again, and one with absolutely no sketchy ingredients. And considering that we co-sleep with our kids when they are young, and that we currently have a little one in bed with us, that was a really important distinction for us.The Sleep On Latex toppers are made with 100% natural latex, sourced from rubber tree plantations in Sri Lanka, which is then processed into latex foam using the Dunlop process. The latex foam in the company's toppers, mattresses, pillows, and other products is certified by both Eco Institut as well as the Oeko-Tex Association, which indicates that the products are free from known harmful ingredients and that consumers can be assured of their safety.

According to the company, its 100% natural latex products contain no synthetic latex, fire retardants, fillers, or other additives, which can be an issue with some other companies' "100% latex" products. That said, for those who have a latex allergy, these certifications and standards don't matter, as contact with latex can cause a range of symptoms in those allergic to it. None of my family are allergic to latex, so that isn't a concern for us.After a few weeks of sleeping on a 2"-thick 100% natural latex mattress topper from Sleep On Latex, I'm sold on it as an option for those looking to refresh their bedding. It's like having a brand new bed, and at a price that won't break the bank. The 2"-thick queen-sized topper is currently priced at $199 (sale price, plus free shipping), which is a bargain when considering how hard it is to put a price on a good night's sleep. Sleep On Latex offers the 100% natural latex mattress toppers in sizes ranging from twin to California King, in thicknesses of 1, 2, or 3", and either soft, medium, or firm (we chose the medium, which feels soft enough to sink into, yet firm enough for full support).

If you're interested in exploring the world of 100% natural latex bedding products, see the Sleep On Latex website.[Disclosure: Sleep On Latex sent me a topper for review purposes, but all opinions, errors, or omissions in this post are mine alone.] Other mattress toppers can be too soft and offer no bed support or else they are too firm and not comfortable. Either way, you cannot change the feel or support of your topper if you are unsatisfied. Our patented reversable Snuggle-Pedic™ topper solves this problem by offering one side that uses an extremely snuggley soft memory foam, while the other side offers a memory foam with twice the support. This two layer design also makes the precise blend that transitions perfectly into your mattress below, without the bottoming out that occurs on a foam topper that is too soft or the stiffness of one that is too firm. While other toppers need to be 3 inches or thicker to make enough of a change in the feel and support of your mattress, our reversible memory foam topper feels like a much thicker topper due to its 2-layer structure, yet you won't have any trouble rolling around on your bed like you will with most 3 inch thicker memory foam toppers.

Perfect for side, back, stomach and pregnant sleepers: The 2-layer structure allows the softer 4lb. density layer to provide extra cushion for the shoulders and hips, while the more buoyant and firmer 5lb. density layer provides the spinal support needed for back and stomach sleepers. Low temperature sensitivity and ultra-reactive: Our unique combination of memory foams will react to your body in any temperature setting and not cause the overheating issue found with other foam toppers. The Snuggle-Pedic only uses memory foam that is CertiPur-U.S. Certified to be foam MADE WITHOUT ozone depleters, PBDE flame retardants, mercury, lead and other heavy metals, formaldehyde, without phthalates regulated by the Consumer Product Safety Commission and Low in VOC (Volatile Organic Compound) emissions for indoor air quality (less than 0.5 parts per million). Made in the U.S.A and backed by the best guarantee: We use only the highest quality, USA produced foam with more density (4.5 lb. average) than the competition, thereby allowing the topper to maintain its support for much longer.

That is why we can offer an unprecedented 10-Year Limited Warranty, along with our 90-Day Sleep Trial! Our warranty is also three times the industry standard, with coverage that starts with only .5 inch of sag. What a world of difference this dual-layer memory foam makes compared to thicker single layers toppers This is a review of the King Size, Snuggle-Pedic, Double Layer, Memory Foam, Mattress Topper. I was provided with a free sample for evaluation. I've got a King sized latex foam mattress with a slight amount of top cushion. On top of that I've been using a 2 inch memory foam topper looks like egg crate with "zones" The zones supposedly give added cushioning to your hips and shoulders. It's OK but it's just not providing quite enough cushioning for my aging body. I'm a side sleeper and the older I get, the more I realize that I'm not sleeping well. I am constantly having to change my sleeping position due to uncomfortable pressure on my hips and shoulders. My current mattress doesn't support me properly any more even with the foam topper I've currently got on it. However the mattress was very expensive, is in great shape and isn't ready to be retired yet.

I welcomed the opportunity to try out this memory foam topper to see if it could make my mattress tolerable again and my nights more restful. I've tried 3" and 4", single layer memory foam toppers in the past and they were just too thick. My body sinks into them so far that I felt like I was climbing out of a pit every time I tried to roll over during my sleep. This Snuggle-pedic topper has dual layers and combined the mattress is just 2" thick. There is a softer 4lb layer and a more firm 5lb layer. That combination of 1 inch of softer foam combined with the second layer of firmer foam make all the difference in the world. No longer do I feel like I'm in a crater on my bed, yet the cushioning of the layers is truly extraordinarily comfortable. As with any memory foam topper that I've ever had, there is an initial odor that does dissipate with time. However I also felt that the odor from this mattress topper was far less than other's I've owned. This is definitely making a positive impact in the way I sleep.

I'm sleeping much more soundly now with much less tossing and turning. It's made a world of difference and I actually can't wait to jump into bed now, it's so comfortable. A totally different sleeping experience My husband and I have a king size bed and my neck and back have had knots for weeks and I've had a lot of painful sleeping nights. afford the new mattress I wanted, so we settled on one of those bed in a box type mattresses we found online very inexpensively, but it did not help atMy amazing father purchased this reversible topper for us and it is aFirst of all, it has two firmnesses, so I guess that could be nice for those that want a choice of a firmer or softer feel, but what I liked about it is the fact that with the softer side up, it feels super comfortable, but it also feels very supportive underneath. don't know if it is because the mattress we purchased is made in China or just because it is a cheap quality, but it just does not have any of that
