Foam mattress pads are designed to provide a comfortable nights sleep. Foam mattress pads simply lie on top of the mattress and are generally used when the existing mattress is lumpy and uncomfortable. The purpose of a foam mattress pad is to create a layer of material between the sleeper and the mattress that supports the sleeper’s weight comfortably. Foam mattress pads are made of dense material that conforms to the weight and shape of the sleeper, providing an even sleeping surface that adjusts to the body’s pressure points. A foam mattress pad is a less expensive option to purchasing a new mattress and generally lasts up to five years with normal wear. Remove the mattress topper — packed in an airtight plastic bag — from the box. Remove the foam mattress pad by hand — without cutting tools — from the plastic bag in which it is stored. Place the foam mattress topper on the floor without attempting to unfold it.

It is compressed for shipping purposes and unfolding it manually can potentially break apart the foam, particularly in cold weather. Allow the foam mattress topper to lie on the floor until it attains room temperature and begins to unfold by itself. After two to three hours it is safe to gently assist the mattress topper to unfold to its normal shape and size. Do not attempt to force the pad to unfold. Air out the foam topper for a period of 24 hours — flipping it over at the 12 hour mark — or until it no longer has a chemical smell. Arrange the mattress pad on top of the mattress. Cover the mattress and topper with a fitted sheet and then make the bed up as you normally do. One trick we have learned is that the Topper Pad seems to air out more quickly with a fan

So we put the pad over a chair with the fan blowing on it, and turn the pad over in the morning to air out both sides equally. This takes care of the odor, for the most part, within a day or two and then it should be ready to go on your bed. After you begin to use the Topper Pad, you can take care of any residual odor by airing it out in the same manner during the day and then putting the pad back on your bed at night. In our experience, this takes care of any such residual odor in a few days. Another option is airing the Topper Pad outside for a day or two. Many customers tell us this works well, but of course you need to be careful about any dirt or moisture outside that may damage the Topper Pad. If it doesn't have good ventilation, moisture may accumulate on the bottom leading to mold or other issues. Similarly, we don't recommend using plywood over a foundation or box springs to firm it up unless you are willing to put in a lot of air holes in it (our suggestion is the holes be quarter sized and about 6 inches apart -- especially under the areas you tend to sleep Moisture build up that leads to this kind of mold issue isn't covered by the warranty since it is due to an inappropriate foundation and not due to any issue or defect in the mattress (if the foundation doesn't allow proper ventilation, this kind of problem could occur in
