Welcome to the Web Site for Shaw Edwards Antiques offering a range of Early English Oak Furniture, Carvings and Related items. The focus of the stock covers late Medieval and early Renaissance examples of carved fragments sometimes as early as the 13th Century right through the 14th, 15th, and 16th Centuries, together with furniture as late as the 17th Century. Shaw Edwards Antiques Early Oak, Medieval, Gothic and Renaissance Antique dealer Shaw has been involved with antiques since the mid 1960s and has studied the art of the late Medieval and early Renaissance periods in some considerable depth. Shaw and his wife Valerie are members of the British Antique Dealers Association, BADA, the Association of Art and Antiques Dealers, LAPADA, and the International Confederation of Art and Antiques Dealers Associations, CINOA. Over the past ten years they have exhibited at the BADA Fair at the Duke of York Square in London, and the LAPADA Fair at Berkeley Square in London.  They will be on Stand B28 at the BADA Fair again this year from the 9th to the 15th March.

Shaw and Valerie’s main interests are in the 14th, 15th and 16th Centuries. They carry a wide selection of secular and religious carvings from the Medieval and Gothic and early Renaissance periods, through to the end of the 16th Century. These early carvings come in a variety of timber including Oak, Walnut, Limewood, Spanish Hard Pine, and very occasionally Yew Wood. They stock high quality early English Oak furniture including coffers, tables, chairs and related works from the late 15th Century, and through the 16th and 17th Centuries. On occasion they have later period high quality Country pieces such as Primitive Chairs, and furniture made from various Fruit Woods. People are very welcome to see any item of interest by appointment, or to discuss them by telephone, or through email correspondence. Please note that Shaw and Valerie no longer have a showroom in Devon, but they are happy, where practicable by prior arrangement, to show items to prospective buyers either by taking them to them, or in their homes in Berkshire and Devon.

USEFUL TIPS :- When purchasing a piece of antique country furniture, firstly you should fall in love with the piece and it should fulfil your requirements. Secondly you should look for originality because the more original the piece is, the more valuable it will remain.- Good original patina, whether dark or light in colour, a true patina from centuries of polishing cannot be faked. Beware of pieces that are over polished. Some restorers tend to over polish a piece to a too high a gloss. This tends to devalue the piece and hides restorations. Knocks and scratches are all part of its history and only enhance a piece.- Thirdly and most importantly enjoy hunting! How to Buy From usWe accept all major credit cards .
