SAN DIEGO – July 9, 2013 – Helping to support families with a child in the hospital, San Diego County McDonald’s and LEGOLAND are teaming up to give restaurant patrons exclusive savings on admission to LEGOLAND® California, SEA LIFE® Carlsbad Aquarium and LEGOLAND Water Park, while raising money for Ronald McDonald House Charities® of San Diego. Coupons offer one free child ticket with a paid adult ticket to LEGOLAND California and the guest’s choice of SEA LIFE Aquarium or LEGOLAND Water Park. Coupons are available at participating San Diego County McDonald’s restaurants between July 9 and August 4 (while supplies last), and must be used by Dec. 31, 2013. Additionally, each coupon redeemed at LEGOLAND will result in a donation to Ronald McDonald House Charities of San Diego. Since 1980, Ronald McDonald House Charities of San Diego has provided a "home away from home" for families coping with the difficulty of having a seriously ill hospitalized child. Each year, the Ronald McDonald House of San Diego serves nearly 20,000 family members who have children receiving treatment at San Diego-area hospitals for life-threatening illnesses or injuries.
The Ronald McDonald House of San Diego features 47 guest suites and a Family Care Center that’s open to anyone with a child in a San Diego-area hospital, in addition to overnight guests. The facility offers a range of programs including lodging, meals, enrichment activities, computer access, recreational facilities, and more. So back in 1974, we helped open the first Ronald McDonald House®, a home-away-from-home, just steps away from a hospital for families with sick children. To this day, we stand by RMHC in their mission to provide children with support, stability, and the best medicine of all – their families. Each year, we support the work RMHC does to impact the lives of over 7 million children both in your neighborhood and in communities around the world. Every time you buy a Happy Meal® or Mighty Kids Meal®, we donate a penny to support RMHC programs and services, including: Ronald McDonald Houses, Ronald McDonald Family Rooms and Ronald McDonald Care Mobile®. Because we know you care about the well-being of children as much as we do, we offer a number of other opportunities for our customers to support RMHC. Throughout the year, you can find RMHC Donation Boxes in participating restaurants, where you can contribute directly to RMHC every time you visit.
No donation is too small, and every contribution helps keep families close to the care and resources their sick child needs. Once a year, our restaurants across the country participate in a national fundraiser for RMHC, allowing customers to donate directly to RMHC in a bigger way. Restaurants compete with each other to raise the most money for RMHC, and the ultimate winners are the RMHC families who benefit from a comforting place to take a break, have a hot meal, get some sleep, and remain close to their hospitalized child. Since 2004, our customers have donated $37 million to support RMHC families through our annual fundraisers alone. It takes about $80 to keep one family close at Ronald McDonald House each night. Through your donations, RMHC has been able to help more than 462,500 families stay close to their sick child. When you visit our participating restaurants in October, you can also be a part of the RMHC Day of Change – a one-day fundraising event where customers are encouraged to fill RMHC Donation Boxes.
Each Donation Box can cover the cost of one night at Ronald McDonald House. This event is held on October 15th each year – the anniversary of the very first opening of a Ronald McDonald House. Giving is a part of our culture. So whether you're dropping spare change in a RMHC Donation Box, participating in our national fundraiser, or purchasing a Happy Meal or Mighty Kids Meal, you're helping to keep families close when they need each other most.
