In addition to the generous financial support we receive from the community, New Life Center receives countless in-kind donations in the form of furniture, dishes, bedding, miscellaneous household objects, clothing, shoes, toiletries and other items. Many of these donations go directly to serve the needs of our residents while in shelter and as they leave for more permanent housing options. These donations are critically important for the families of New Life Center since most arrive with little more than the clothes they are wearing. Every year, we receive more donated material than our residents can use. Items not used by our residents are sold at Hope’s Closet and all proceeds from the sale are used to support the Center. The recommendation to reduce bulk trash pickup days to once a month was approved by City Council in April 2012 and was overwhelmingly supported by Goodyear residents in a citizen survey conducted in October 2011. Data from the citizen survey reflected that 85 percent of residents used bulk trash pickup only once a month and sometimes less.
Half of the respondents who said they used bulk trash pickup twice a month supported the reduction to once a month. The transition in service will also save the City more than $300,000 annually in operations costs. The purpose of the City of Goodyear’s bulk trash collection program is to pickup larger items that do not fit in regular-sized trash cans. Bulk trash items collected by the City of Goodyear include yard waste, furniture, mattresses, appliances and other large household items. All bulk items need to be tied in bundles or placed in boxes and placed on the curb on collection days. To determine the bulk trash pickup day in various areas throughout the City, residents can click on the Sanitation Service Day Finder link and enter their house number address to discover which day of the month is their bulk trash collection date. The bulk trash service does not affect the established weekly pickup days for regular trash and recycle collection.
