Fabulous Finds and Gifts is our Boutique Thrift Store, with gently used brand name men's, women's, and children's clothing, gifts, party supplies, and jewelry. Both thrift stores also serve as an outreach, which means that individuals in abusive situations can learn about our services from our Thrift Store Clerks. Why is this important? Because many abusive partners isolate their partner from friends and family members individuals in abusive situations may be limited in their ability to safely go to many places, including places where they may be able to reach out for help in leaving their abusive partner.

However, many victims may be allowed to safely go to one of our Thrift Stores without raising suspicion, which can allow them to find out what their options are without putting them in danger!Donations to our Thrift Stores and all of the proceeds benefit New HOPE of McDowell and are tax deductible! If you would like to donate, you can drop off donations to either Store. Donating after business hours? Both stores have Donation Drop Off spots for your convenience! As we rely solely off of donations, we hope that you will consider donating to our Stores! Though we are happy to accept almost any donation, there are a few items that we cannot accept. Those include: items that have been recalled by the Consumer Product Safety Commission, items with lead paint, and used/soiled mattresses. Trust Sleepy's, the 'only' mattress professionals. McDowell Mission Resale Center FAQ The Christian Clothing Center was founded in McDowell County over 20 years ago under the leadership of Mrs. Jewell McNeal and other able volunteers, and has been providing good used clothing at bargain prices ever since.  In January of 1997, their board of directors saw the wisdom and benefit of uniting their ministry with that of McDowell Mission Ministries. In May of 1998 we celebrated the grand opening of our new building. Since that humble beginning the Christian Clothing Center has expanded to a total of 4,200 square feet of retail space. The union of these two important ministries has helped both to thrive.

The Center is now the McDowell Mission Resale Center. Proceeds from the sale of good used clothing, furniture, and appliances helped us purchase the property that the Men’s Shelter and Resale Center reside on. They have also provided $130,000 that was used to assist Hospice, McDowell Prison Ministry, Family Services, McDowell Mission, and other benevolent causes. Furthermore, the store has distributed hundreds of items of donated furniture and appliances and thousands of free bags of clothing to the needy, both within the county and abroad. Changing needs and times have necessitated the latest changes to the Resale Center’s mission. One of the saddest events that has taken place at the Resale Center is the loss of "Miss Jewel" earlier this year. We miss her smile and grace each and every day. We hope that you like some of the changes that we have made. We also hope that your shopping experience with us is a good one. If not, we want to know. You may call our Executive Director, Sabra Rock at her office at 828.659.6490 to offer complements and suggestions on how we may improve our service.

We are glad that you have chosen to partner with us in this on going battle against poverty by sharing your donations and/or shopping with us. Mother Theresa, once said, “We can do no great things, only small things with great love.” And according to our Lord, “great love always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres…and endures forever” 1 Corinthian’s 13:7. This is what we try to accomplish. What happens to your donated items? – Every item that is donated is sorted, inspected and sized. We place only the finest items on the sales floor. The remainder is sold to a reputable textile company that sends them to Haiti, one of the poorest nations in the Caribbean. How are proceeds from sales used? – Proceeds from sales are used for the general operating expenses of the Christian Clothing store. A small percentage is also laid aside for repairs, maintenance, and future needs. The remainder is placed in the general fund for use by the Ministry. It is used in all the ministries that the Mission is involved in: housing the homeless, benevolence, food, and transportation.

Do you still give out free clothing? – The answer is yes. All a person needs is a letter stating their need from a pastor, DSS, Red Cross or another service agency. There are restrictions on how often and what can be gotten from the store. This also applies to furniture and appliances. Can I get a tax receipt? – Yes, but you need to provide an inventory of what you are donating when you bring it. Your donation is only worth what it would normally sell for on our sales floor. We do accept “Turbo Taxes” assigned amounts, but you must bring a copy of this with you when you come. What kind of donations can I bring to the store? – The store takes: clean clothing, working appliances, furniture, mattresses, dinnerware, linens, shoes, and just about anything else that you can think of. We also take cars and trucks regardless of running condition, motorcycles and boats. The IRS has some strict rules regarding how much can be claimed for the above donations. Do you do deliveries?
