Plus rest easy with a Step up your sitting game withTo say it freaked me out is mild, however, I thought I'd ask if anyone has had a recent experience with this or if they didn't encounter anything during their stay. Just wanting my nerves calm - haven't run into any of these critters in my life staying at many hotels and don't really want to if there is a chance I may! Thing about bed bugs is that not all rooms will have them. It's impossible to say that a HOTEL has a problem in all the rooms. And that goes for all hotels. You run the risk in ANY hotel. Thanks for the reply and yes, I realize that, but I just wanted to know if anyone had any recent experiences with them at this hotel. When we check in to any hotel, I always lift the sheet before we settle in and check between the mattress folds. Someone recommended that, whether or not that is how you'd check for them I don't know. Maybe I should second part my question: what do you do to check for them?

How do I check for them? The same way you do. That's what all the "experts" say do do. Why do you ask? to check for bed bugs, I leave all my luggage out in the hall (with travelling partner), lift up the bedsheets on one side and look at the seams of the mattress. Bed bug fecal matter contains blood, so it leaves stains that look like dried blood pinpricks on the mattress seams. check google for pics. Good advice to leave the suitcases outside while you check any hotel room. Any good hotel - and the Westin certainly is a good hotel - would be paying attention to a bedbug issue and taking care of it. Try not to get too worked up about it, because if you think about it too much you will no longer be able to buy clothes at clothing stores or stay in any hotel. Learn how to positively identify the signs, and carry some ziplock bags, scotch tape and a camera (whatever it takes for you to feel that you can document an issue). It might be a good idea for anyone who finds the thought of possibly discovering this to be very upsetting to learn some techniques to keep their composure on an even keel.

Square breathing, yoga and other distress tolerance or self calming techniques could come in handy. In advance, think of what you would want the hotel to do for you in the event you did find something. Put you up in another place? Perhaps call them and speak to the manager about your concerns. Discover what they usually do if someone is unhappy. If you have a mental plan in place you will be more prepared, thus better able to bounce back and still have a great trip, wherever you go. Hope you have a great trip. from todays travel section in Seattle Times they suggest putting luggage on metal stand and washing your clothes when you get home and also keeping your suitcase in the garage once you return. If you google'''bed bug reports there are several websites. Westin for whatever reason was questioned in a post a few yrs? ago but there was not much validity to the inquiry. We stayed there a couple of weeks ago -- no problems. I've stayed there 3 times in the past 2 years without any problems.

There's a web-site for reporting bed bug encounters: There don't appear to be any current reports of bed bugs at the downtown Seattle Westin, but someone would have to be aware of this particular web site to self-report an incident. There's a fairly decent Wikipedia article on bed bugs (definitely not for the squeamish): I work at a hotel in the Seattle area and I will let you know that the Westin was hit a few months ago along with 3 other major hotels in the downtown area, they have since fixed the issue with the bed bugs. This is a problem that has grown nation wide, it started in NY and with all the travelers throught he nation has spread. Majority of hotels downtown have contracted with pest companies that have specially trained dogs that sniff rooms. I still check anywhere I stay just for piece of mind, libtravel's bed bug checking method was exactly correct. A front desk should never be offended if you go to a room and you dont like it and want to be changed so take the time to check it out and see if it is the one you want, if not just asked the front desk for a different one.
