Texas mattress store that spoofed 9/11 closes A Texas mattress store that drew jeers for its commercial that spoofed the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001 has closed. In a statement posted to social media, Miracle Mattress owner Mike Bonanno said the San Antonio store will "close indefinitely." "We take full responsibility for our actions and sincerely regret the hurt and pain caused by this disrespectful advertising campaign," Bonanno said. The store came under fire last week for a 20-second spot advertising a "Twin Tower sale" that was released just days ahead of the 15th anniversary of the terrorist attacks that killed almost 3,000 people. The ad shows store manager Cherise Bonanno, the owner's daughter, flinging her arms back, causing two men standing behind her to fall into a stack of mattresses - one topped with an American flag - and knocking them over. Cherise Bonanno then looks at the camera and says "we'll never forget." Mike Bonanno said the ad was posted to the company's Facebook page without his approval.
He issued an apology and said the store will make a donation to 9/11 funds for victims. He also disavowed what he said were phony Facebook accounts set up claiming to represent the store. "Miracle Mattress, its ownership and its employees will not be engaging in any personal attacks or responses on any social media platform," Bonanno said.
