Parklane Mattresses was one of the first to adopt this process, recognizing that recycling is the most eco-friendly way to dispose of old mattresses. Although many people think that handing down a used mattress is a responsible decision, we know the truth. Mattresses double in weight every eight years due to the normal accumulation of moisture, dead skin cells, dust mites, and other allergens and biological excretions. With that in mind, giving a used mattress to another sleeper is not a sanitary or altruistic gesture. Not surprisingly, mattresses and foundations cause many problems in the world’s waste stream. They take up a lot of space in landfills, make flammable air pockets, damage compression equipment, and can create dangerous conditions for waste management workers. Still, if a mattress is broken down to its component parts, then about 85% of the contents can be recycled.
Recycling a mattress is relatively simple. First, mattresses and foundations are cut open and their components (e.g. cotton, foam, wood, and steel) are separated into corresponding groups. These materials are then baled and shipped out for recycling. DR3 Mattress Recycling is the world leader in mattress recycling, and one of their largest operations is in Eugene, Oregon. Parklane Mattresses is proud to work with a company that has established safe and sanitary working conditions for breaking down mattresses and foundations for component recycling. Parklane Mattresses is a significant contributor to the DR3 Mattress Recycling facility in Eugene, Oregon. You too can take part in this eco-friendly process—it’s easy! Whether or not you purchase a new mattress from us, we are happy to recycle your old mattress and/or foundation. For a small fee of $35 per piece ($70 per piece if we are just recycling), you can rest assured that you have disposed of your old mattress in the most responsible way possible.
Please note that this fee goes towards our cost for using the DR3 Mattress Recycling program, as well as our operation time to pick up and deliver your old mattress. If you solely need to use our recycling service, then you must be located within 30 miles of our factory in Tualatin, Oregon. However, if you purchase a new Parklane mattress and choose to have it delivered, then our recycling service extends to 90 miles from our factory. Please keep in mind that deliveries beyond the 30-mile radius of our factory require additional payment, and a delivery cost will be provided at the time of purchase. At Parklane Mattresses, we like to be clean. That is why we have several delivery trucks that only transport used products. Your new Parklane mattress and foundation will never be in the same truck as used ones. We guarantee that our new mattresses and foundations are free of dust mites, bed bugs, and all other possible contaminants. Keep an eye out for our green recycling trucks, and don’t be surprised when we pull up to your doorstep in two trucks: one to pick up your old mattress set for recycling, and one to deliver your brand new Parklane.
