Such A Christmas Blessing on December 30, 2016 From the second we walked into the door , Evan and Robert made us feel at home . They are the ultimate hosts and chefs .

The gourmet breakfasts are delectable. The house ,itself , is a delightful mixture of antiques , collections, history , whimsy and warmth . We miss y'all already guys . Thanks , so very much , for making our Christmas stay truly memorable ! Chris and Monique Massi A birthday treat for a 99-year-old on April 24, 2015 I returned to the House of 1833 with my American wife for the 99th birthday of her mother. For this occasion I wanted to give my mother-in-law a special stay at Evan and Robert’s B&B. We reserved for her the Peach room permeating with the oriental flavor of jasmine and on the ground floor, easily accessible to the large living and dining rooms rich with antiques which any art collector would love, plus her private veranda. Our hosts were so kind and considerate. What a festive atmosphere they created to celebrate her 99 years - balloon-flowers-wine-champagne-smiles-great conversation-music-singing and a delicate birthday cake… with great backgrounds for photos on our Ipads and Iphones.

We enjoyed, to say the least, the amazing breakfasts ... especially the blueberry pancakes and French toasts with strawberries. In the late afternoon and before bed, my mother-in-law had the privilege of being favored by Trixie, the sweetest imaginable B&B dog, who crouched at the feet of my beloved mother-in-law with the power of putting her gently to sleep. Despite the sweet comforts in the House of 1833 for a 99-year old, we accompanied her with her walker to the historic center of Stonington and then to Bank Street in New London for a drink between the arrival of numerous Amtraks and boats coming from the nearby islands. By then, rather tired she wanted to return to the House of 1833 to doze off in her Peach room which she said reminded her of her travels to China in her youth, in particular when she was a guest of a Chinese tycoon who invited her to his home to sleep in a bed that once belonged to the emperor of China and which is now we believe in the Peach room. Thank you Evan, Robert and of course Trixie for the pleasant hospitality and hope to repeat the occasion for her 100 years.

on September 13, 2014 I have stayed at the House of 1833 five times. Once I booked a room for our anniversary Evan asked are you celebrating an occasion, and I said yes our anniversary. When we arrived at the B&B Evan showed us to our room and it was decorated with balloons, a banner and a cake! Evan and Robert are very passionate about their B&B and it shows from the time you make the reservation to the time you drive away. Upon arrival Evan will show you around the house, which is beautifully decorated in period furniture from the 19th century and will explain the history of the B&B, the family connection to Robert, and the history of the furniture, it is quite fascinating. Evan will also take you on a tour of the amazing gardens of the House of 1833, another joy and delight. He will explain each of the flowers and shrubs and you will just be amazed at how many different types there are, along with the 35 or so different varieties of elephant ear plants, who knew there were that many?

Evan will do the meet and greet, suggest places to go, things to see and places to have lunch and/or dinner. Robert does all the gardening and cooking, you will see him but not as much as Evan. Let me say this about Robert, he puts as much passion and pride into his cooking as he does with his gardening. In all the times my husband and I have been at the House of 1833 we have never had the same breakfast twice, with the exception of "Pancake Sunday" when you get many different types of pancakes, with a variety of toppings, your choice, you have to experience "Pancake Sunday" at least once. Robert loves cooking and he is adventurous, meaning you are not going to get the run of the mill breakfasts, each breakfast starts with a baked item (ooey gooey sticky buns are amazing) fresh fruit, your choice of breakfast with a choice of meat. This is a 5 Star B&B. I could go on and on, you just have to experience the House of 1833 yourself. on September 13, 2012 We stayed at 1833 last weekend and it was perfect!

Our room was the oak room which was cozy albeit funky and eclectic . The house has many historic features and feels like stepping back in time. The breakfasts on the deck and in the dining room are great, especially on "pancake Sundays". The inn is just down the road from Mystic and about 25-30 minutes to the area casinos. There's also a very nice pool and lush gardens. We really enjoyed our stay! on May 10, 2012 We stayed there for our anniversary. The inn keepers were the two of the nicest people ever. They were very personable and went out of their way to be accomodating but not intrusive. When we made the reservation we were asked of any dietary restrictions. I told Evan I was allergic to strawberries. Upon entering our room there was a banner, cake, flowers and balloons. Unfortunately I was not able to eat the cake because it was strawberry. We did bring it home with us and shared it with friends. Keep Coming Back for More! on January 09, 2012 My wife and I have been here three times(cannot wait to return).

The day I proposed we stayed the night here. Even before meeting Evan, I was at ease. Just talking to him on the phone about the Inn and it's Amenities and History I knew I just had to book. Upon arrival that first time Evan was waiting for us and congratulated us on the engagement. We met the other owner Robert and got a tour and history lesson of the home and it's many antiques. Robert is actually a descendant of the original owner! Then we were shown to our room- the Veranda Room. It had a huge bed, big bathroom, sitting area, fireplace, tv, a huge jacuzzi and a nice little porch overlooking the gardens and pool. They had a banner waiting for us and great Sherry to sip. Anything we requested we got- it is private and quiet(even with a full house.) It was great to walk the grounds and swim. It is so close to everything in that area. The second and third visit you feel like family. We love chatting and catching up with Robert and Evan and petting their dog. The breakfasts are simply amazing.

So good and so plentiful. The price is worth it. I would recommend this place to anyone. on October 03, 2011 After a long trip getting to Mystic, our first B&B choice was not of our liking or taste. We visited the 1833 House and were immediately put at ease by the very kind co-owner (Evan). He gave us a tour and explained some of the history of this great Mansion, then invited us back the next morning for a free breakfast, with no pressure of switching B&B's. We were so impressed by his warm nature, we booked the Ivy room starting that night (and the next three) all while still paying for the first night at the less desirable inn. The breakfasts were worthy of being served in any five star restaurant!!! Please ask about the history of the parlor....you won't be disappointed. The story made the hair on my neck stand up (not in a haunting kinda way either). A great stay in the perfect location. Close enough to all the wonderful area attractions, yet you'll feel like your in the counrty while sitting quietly by the pool and huge gardens.

Our 32nd anniversary (Can't believe it!) on September 17, 2011 We totally enjoyed relaxing out on the terrace overlooking the beautiful garden and the pool. The atmosphere was lovely and the bed was incredibly comfortable. The breakfast was delightful and I wish I has the receipes. We really enjoyed our stay and were made to feel very special. Perfect in every way! on January 31, 2011 My boyfriend and I were looking for a getaway and picked the House of 1833. Wow did we pick the perfect place for a romantic evening! Robert and Evan were absolutely wonderful. They showed us around the house and gave us some of the history of the rooms, the house, and some of the antiques. Because we stayed in the winter, it was very quiet which was nice. When we got there we upgraded to the Veranda room with the jacuzzi and fireplace. The next morning, breakfast was even better than we could have imagined. It was a Sunday and we had pancakes. They were by far the best pancakes we had ever eaten.
