We Are Putting The Mattress Problem To Bed Each year over 1 million mattresses go to landfill in Australia.  If these mattresses were stacked on top of each other they would reach the International Space Station. TIC Mattress Recycling has invested in leading edge technology to deconstruct mattresses for recycling.  Committed to recycling, the new facility aims to recover more than 85% of mattresses processed.

TIC Mattress Recycling's new automated facility eliminates intense manual handling, manages dust and other waste extractions whilst ensuring the recycling of mattresses is done safely. By systematically demanufacturing mattresses, each component can be properly separated so that it can be re-used in other products, and further reducing the volumes of waste being sent to landfill. TIC Mattress Recycling partnered with Soft Landing TIC Mattress Recycling is working with national social enterprise group, Soft Landing. Soft Landing will provide logistics in Melbourne and Sydney to collect mattresses from transfer stations, retailers and manufacturers, as well as process mattresses that are more suited for manual deconstruction such as bed bases and ensembles. "Working with TIC Mattress Recycling for the collection and recycling of our mattresses and furniture has provided confidence that we are working with a reputable organisation; their commitment to the environment and to customer service is exceptional.

Geelong and Surf Coast residents have the opportunity to be amongst the first people to participate using the new system which will transform the industry. Geelong and Surf Coats residents are being offered an exclusive mattress recycling deal for April. TIC’s new facility dramatically reduces manual handling and deconstruction of mattresses enabling increased recovery of valuable resources such as steel, foam and textiles while reducing health hazards and the risk of workplace injuries. TIC Mattress Recycling Managing Director Michael Warren said two years of research and development has gone into the new facility. “Mattresses have long been recognised as an environmental problem”, Mr Warren said. “If they are sent to landfill they are bulky, take up a lot of space and the recyclable steel and other materials are lost. “To date recycling has either been manual systems which are slow and expose people to workplace injuries or shredding type systems which do not recover much of the recyclable materials.”
