Rather than trust that hotel rooms or relatives will have baby cots, pack your own travel cot; not only will you be assured there is a safe place for your infant to sleep, but a personal cot from home may comfort the child in an unfamiliar place.Besides choosing the colour of the travel cot, you can also decide if you want extra features. For example, some cots come with clips that allow you to fasten the baby bed at a higher level for newborns and younger babies. Other cots come with mobiles and other toys to enchant the sleepy child, a changing station, or a zipped play entrance. These travel cots also often double as play pens, so your child has a safe area to sleep as well as play.

Rachael Stott was left 'at her wits end' after repeatedly finding dozens of bugs around her newborn Leo - only to find it was the baby's sleeping cot that was infested Rachael and her husband Adam kept frantically cleaning their home in Stockport, Manchester, after finding insects on their son, just days after bringing him home from the hospitalIn desperation, Rachael called her aunt who suggested she check the baby's wicker basket.

Banging the cot onto a plastic bag, Rachael claims she was stunned when dozens and dozens of bugs came tumbling out.Rachael, who worked at a pharmacy before going on maternity leave, said: 'I felt sick to my stomach when I saw all of the living bugs falling out of the basket - the same basket that Leo had been sleeping in.'I could not believe that he had been sleeping so close to them all this time. I hate thinking of all of these bugs under him and I had not known.'It is awful. It had made me feel like I couldn't protect him but all of this time it was something that had come in with the basket that was supposed to keep him safe. I felt very let down.'Rachael had bought the wicker basket from Tesco Direct before Leo was born but kept it in its packaging in the spare room, which had been newly decorated and refurbished ahead of the birth. I hate thinking of all of these bugs under him and I had not known' Banging the basket onto a plastic bag, Rachael claims she was stunned when dozens and dozens of bugs came tumbling outWhen their little boy was born two months ago, the couple often used the cot for Leo to sleep in, however they noticed bugs in the area within days of getting him home.Rachael said: 'I had no idea where they were coming from. I felt almost at my wit's end with the stress of it all. We had cleaned everything so much I felt I was going out of my mind.'In the end I was in floods of tears and felt like I was having a breakdown when I called my auntie and she asked if I had anything wicker. She suggested I bang it over some plastic sheets to see.'She added: 'I didn't think anything was going to happen as we had bought it brand new, so when I banged it, I did it indoors next to the patio doors.'All of the bugs fell out, it was disgusting.

I was frantically scrabbling round trying to get the doors open so I could get them out. They were horrible looking, I didn't know what they were but they were about the size of an ant.'At first I felt relief that I had found out what it was. But then I was really, really angry that this could have happened.'Leo is only two months old and has been around these bugs since he was a couple of days old. That is horrible to think about.' Rachael is trying to warn other parents about the terrifying bug incident and has shared the news on Facebook A Tesco spokesperson said: 'We have very high standards for the safety and quality of our products so we were concerned to hear of this incident' Rachael is now getting quotes on prices to have her home fumigated.Rachael said: 'I want to be able to relax and enjoy our son's first Christmas but I can't relax until I know every last stray bug is out of our house. I hope Tesco are going to arrange fumigation as soon as possible.'I also want an explanation on how this was allowed to happen in the first place.
