A budget mattress and bed company hopes it could soon become a household name in Nottingham after taking over a shop in which it was previously just a concession.Mattressman now owns the unit that it previously shared with Betta Living in Castle Marina Retail Park.Staff found themselves locked out of the store after Betta Living went into administration on Friday, November 4.But Mattressman reopened 10 days later after taking over the premises, protecting three jobs – and now has plans to grow its own business within the site. Marketing manager Nicky Gilkes said the concession was one of Mattressman's best outlets and believes that the expansion could lead to it becoming a "flagship store".He said: "We've got the concession space for the time being."We're going to move downstairs and expand the store and take the full space of the unit."By doubling the floor space, we're able to put more of our British handmade furniture on the shop floor and double the availability for customers as well."

We'll do more marketing around the local area because it's a key city for us and one we've wanted to back."We've enjoyed a successful period since we opened in April last year and for a company that was a concession to take over the store and expand its business in its first year of trading is something to be proud of."Mr Gilkes said that the closure of the Betta Living home furnishings store, which specialised in kitchens, bedrooms and bathrooms, was "frightening" for staff working at the Nottingham branch.He said: "We had no idea, nor did our staff. Just before closing the staff were told that the stores were closing and that Betta Living was going into administration."It was a frightening week. It must have been awful for the guys in the store."We were glad that we were able to turn it around."Since Betta Living went into administration, Mattressman – which is headquartered in Norwich and has 20 stores across the UK – has sold its Nottingham-based stock on eBay and is in the process of removing the rest of it from the store.
