Payoff: How Congress Ensures Private Prison Profit with an Immigrant Detention Quota My wife an I ventured out here for a relaxing weekend over new years. The check in process was quick and the front desk people were polite and outgoing. The room was a two room suite over looking the lake which provided amazing sunset views. Room was clean and updated. Couch was kinda uncomfortable but outherwise we enjoyed the room. Not many kids at this time of a year which is a plus.

Don't want to imagine this place in July. The hotel has an awesome piano bar that was very relaxing and fun. Beers were about $4 a draft and their cocktails ran from $7-12. Chez roux is a must for those who enjoy a fine dining experience. ExPensive but worth it to see the quality and craft of Michael grays cookingOverall we enjoyed our stay and would return to area 1,260 reviews sorted by: I thought the hotel was beautiful inside and the staff was amazing. The grounds and restaurants were the things I had a problem with. The tennis courts were great to have, but there were little things that troubled me. Being winter, they had closed the little clubhouse. That was ok, but there was no way to get anything to drink without going back to the hotel to pay for an expensive water. It just seemed a little old and run down out there. The restaurants were a bit overpriced. The food was good, but not that good. The rooms were absolutely amazing. Some of the best I've stayed in. The bed and pillows were so comfortable.

I wish I had it in my own home.Overall, it was a good experience. I think things could improve relatively easily and make it an amazing experience for everyone. I would consider staying there again. We visited La Toretta for our anniversary. It seemed as though we were the only ones on the property, it was empty. The spa was nice, as well as the heated pool. Most of the restaurants were open. We dined at chez roux and are did not find it as appeasing as hoped. We called well in advance for reservation and noted it was our anniversary but not one "extra" done for our special occasion, this included the hotel as well. We had marina view suite which was an average room. Sadly, the drought has made the view awful but not the hotels fault. We stayed up late enjoying the paino bar and were loudly awakened by someone cleaning the windows in the room above us at 0755 on a Saturday morning!!! We called down to report this as there was soap all over our patio and they were going to look into it.

We live in the woodlands and were hoping to make this a nice getaway location but unsure we will ever be back. Husband and I wanted to spend some quality time alone. The hotel exceeded our expectations. The hotel had upscale amenities, activities, and ambiance. Very romantic, and classy. I read the other reviews and was apprehensive about trying La Torretta- now that I have, well- it seems that ALL the reviews fit in some way or another. First off, the staff was incredibly kind and attentive to our needs- absolutely NO RUDENESS on their part, the front desk was also friendly and attentive. BUT- NO information, map of hotel or of its amenities was provided. You are left on your own to figure things out. Valet parking may be necessary if hate long walks. We self-parked and it was a little lonesome coming back toward the hotel on the poorly lit trail. (Was ready to karate-chop any would be attackers) Oh, wait, thats another story...anyway- The inside decor was a modern twist, a grade above "IKEA" (as someone mentioned) and everything seemed relatively NEW!

However, our room was NOT CLEAN upon arrival and the sheets had stains (and were NOT changed from previous guest) and there was some kind of food on the couch? This matter was remedied immediately- and room was attended to promptly. (But, of course, I was still grossed out and disappointed- thinking oh man- the bad reviews were right!) I pushed through my not so great first impression and gave it a second chance. We had a king sized bedroom with sitting area overlooking the front area and lake. The view was nice. (When the lake levels return, it will be wonderful again) The buildings are in need of a good cleaning since cob/spider webs had taken over our balcony. In fact, you can tell that the maintenance of the buildings themselves has been lacking for some time. Again- overlooking this was easy- as we strolled about the grounds and checked out spa, exercise area and ate breakfast at the Prime restaurant. Excellent staff, mediocre food (very very over priced) Walked around the meeting rooms etc and WOW- what a wonderful place to throw a party, host a conference or do any type of social function!

VERY UPSCALE and VERY NICE! I like this place... but wait, this isnt a business trip- this is a "romantic getaway" Hmmm... For every step forward I was making in my mind- certain things made me step back... again- this is why I can truly say that the reviews below are ALL accurate in one way or another! Overall, despite my room being dirty on arrival- I am recommending La Torretta (to certain types of travelers) I can admit to being extremely picky and YES- I have a little "OCD" when it comes to anything "germy" or out of sorts in a hotel. So- my recommendation is to: non germaphobics- semi perfectionists and people who live in what I call a lovely ignorant bliss (that I wish I could be in while staying at hotels!) smiles... this place has MASSIVE potential to be AWESOME. Lets hope things turn around! Hope you enjoy your stay and have a positive experience- you've got a 70/30 chance that it will be GREAT! Here's the final RUNDOWN: Mattress, Pillows and Bedding- VERY COMFORTABLE, A+ PILLOWS!

Bathroom: CLEAN, great shower, all you need supplied. Mini BAR in room: DONT EVEN TOUCH IT! Restaurants on site: Rob a bank if you plan on eating there for any meal. Wait, don't bother- the food isn't worth going to jail for! Spa, Pool and MUCH MUCH MORE (great for Summer) Check-in Staff: Friendly, but... Housekeeping- well, uh go back and read my first comments, after that A-OK! Room Tip: Get a room as FAR AWAY from the night club as possible, can be VERY LOUD! We stayed here just to have a little romantic getaway without the kids. The hotel was very nice. We particularly liked the fitness center, which had a large variety of equipment to choose from. We also walked along the golf course, which was pleasant. There were very few people staying at the hotel / resort during the time we were there, which was nice for us since we wanted a nice weekend together. In terms of potential areas of improvement, the hotel room was fairly cold and the heater did not work well in our room.

It wasn't a huge issue, but certainly decreased the comfort for my wife. Also, we did not have a refrigerator, which would have been nice to have. I thought the bed was comfortable, but my wife found the bed less comfortable than some of the hotels we have stayed at. The suite where we stayed was spacious and had interesting and comfortable furniture. I'll just list what I like:1. It is tastefully modern with a nice color scheme. It was definately professionally planned and decorated3. The room was great, looked new, and was rather large. Great mattress and love the pillows4. Bathroom was large and clean and attractive. Love the swing out glass shower doors5. The business center was more of a convention center. It was clean, looked new, and was tastefully decorated.6. The food was abundant, varied, and tasted great. Was there for 2 days and every meal was outstanding. We ate at Prime mostly, but did eat at Energie once and it was great as well. 7. The front desk personnel were accommodating and friendly.8.
