Both the mattress and box spring should be encased. One must remember that the box spring is hollow providing a large empty space to hide and multiply. How do bed bugs trapped inside the mattress and box spring die once the encasement are applied? Bed bugs normally feed every 5-7 days, but have been reported to live over a year without a blood meal. As long as our bedding encasements remain on any bed bug trapped inside will eventually die of starvation.
Will encasements alone eradicate our bed bug infestation? By protecting the beds, fewer cracks and crevices are available for bed bugs to hide making treatment for bed bugs much easier. Any bed bugs that are hiding either in the mattress or box spring will be trapped and eventually die of starvation. Bed bugs may also be harboring in other parts of the room including inside furniture, walls, picture frames, etc. Bedding encasements are very important, but will likely not cure an infestation alone. Do I need pillow encasements? Pillow encasements protect your pillows from invading bed bugs eliminating areas for bed bugs to hide and reproduce. We suggest encasing the pillows along with the mattress and box spring. If you have many pillows, you may want to only use one pillow per person reducing the cost of the encasings. Do I need to treat the mattress and box spring with pesticides before encasing them? Our encasings provide a non-chemical treatment for the pillows, mattresses and box springs.
Once applied, bed bugs can neither get in or out. Removing fecal matter left by bed bugs along the seams of the mattress is suggested before encasing for obvious reasons. What is the difference between the mattress and box spring encasement? Both the mattress and box spring encasement offer the same level of protection and quality, but the box spring encasements do not have a cotton terry surface. Cotton terry is used on the mattress encasement to make it silent for the sleeper and to keep it cool. What should I look for in a bed bug encasement? Bed bug encasements should be cool, breathable, waterproof, specifically designed for bed bugs and not made from vinyl. The zippers teeth should be smaller than a stage 1 bed bug nymph and the end zipper should be protected from accidental opening. Our encasements include all of these features.
