Marriage

Allah said:

{And Allah has made for you from yourselves mates and has made for you from your mates sons and grandchildren and has provided for you from the good things...} [Quran 16: 72]

And also:

{And of His signs is that He created for you from yourselves mates that you may find tranquility in them; and He placed between you affection and mercy. Indeed in that are signs for a people who give thought.} [Quran 30: 21]

The Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) said, "If one whose religion and behavior pleases you comes to you (to ask for your daughter's hand, for example), then marry him, otherwise there will be troubles and corruption on earth." Sahîh Al-Jâmi’.

And also: " [...] And I marry women. The one who turns away from my Sunnah is not of me."Related by al-Bukhari.

And: "Nothing the like of marriage has ever been seen for two beings who love one another." SahîhAl-Jâmi’.

And also: "Mary the affectionate and fertile women because on the Day of Resurrection I will boast among the other communities of having the greatest nation." Sahîh Al-Jâmi’.

The Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وسلم) said, "O young people, let the one who is able to get married do so, for marriage helps to lower the gaze and preserves chastity. Let the one who is not able to get married observe fasting, for that restrains the carnal desires." Related by al-Bukhari and Muslim.

And also: "Get married, for on the Day of Resurrection I will boast among the other communities of having the greatest nation, and do not live the monastic life of the Christians."As-Sahihah.

The Prophet (صلى الله عليه وسلم) prohibited to take a vow of abstinence—to deprive oneself of getting married. According to Sa’d Ibn Abû Waqqâs , "The Messenger of Allah (صلى الله عليه وسلم) rejected the vow of chastity of ‘Uthmân Ibn Madh’ûn, and had he permitted him, then we would certainly have had ourselves castrated."Related by al-Bukhari and Muslim.

 

Ibn Mas’ûd said, "Even if I had only ten days left to live, I would get married on the last one, if possible, out of fear of committing the prohibited." Related by Sa’îd Ibn Mansûr.

Umar Ibn Al-Khattâb said, "Take several wives, as you do not know because of which one you will receive subsistence."

Umar said to Abû Az-Zawâ’id, "Only impotence or dissoluteness prevents you from getting married."

Ibn Abbas said, "The rites of the worshipper will only be complete once he gets married."

Imam Ahmed said, "The benefits of marriage are five: obtaining offspring, curbing one's desires, managing the home, enlarging the tribe, and fighting one's self by spending on them."

Ibn al-Qayyim said, "The love of women is part of the completeness of man." Ibn Abbas said, "The best one of this community is the one who has the most wives." Ad-Dâ’u wa ad-Dawâ’.

At-Tabari said, "The abstinence that ‘Uthmân Ibn Madh’ûn wanted to apply was to forbid himself from women, perfume, and anything through which one obtains pleasure. It is for that reason that Allah revealed:

{O you who have believed, do not prohibit the good things which Allah has made lawful to you and do not transgress. Indeed, Allah does not like transgressors.}" [Quran 5: 87]

Hind Bint ‘Utbah Ibn Rabî’ah, the mother of Mu’âwiyyah Ibn Abû Sufyân said, "In reality, women are handcuffs, let the men choose handcuffs for their hands." A’lâm An-Nisâ.

Imam Ahmed remarried the day after the mother of his son Abdullah died. He said about that, "I hate staying single."

Imam ash-Shafi'i said, "Marriage is allowed because it is a source of pleasure and the fulfillment of a desire. It is like food and drink." ‘Uyûn al-‘Akhbâr.

Al-Qâsim Ibn ‘Abd ar-Rahmân said, "Abdullah ibn Mas'ud was reading the Quran. When he finished, he said, 'Where are the unmarried? Come closer. Say, 'O Allah, grant me a wife that will please me when I look at her, that will obey me when I command her, and that will safeguard herself and my possessions in my absence.''"
