Two men, who asked not to be identified, say they arrived at the store just after the shooting."When you walked up and saw all the people, you could tell something was up. I didn't know what to think," one man told KCTV5's Nathan Vickers.Lowe's patrons and employees felt shaken by the death."You wouldn't think that would happen in a public place. It was probably one of the safest places you could be and then something like this happened. Especially on an ordinary day," a witness said.Billings' family said she was an outgoing woman with a big heart."We come from a huge family, and the family always sticks together," Billings' sister, Denise Risley, said.
Risley and her brother, JR Billings say their baby sister was outgoing, caring and always the center of attention."If there was a moment when you were down or out, she would bring you back up with her comedy and her jokes," JR Billings said.Janet Billings was the youngest and loved spending time with her young cousins, singing and dirt track racing."It is a big deal in our family. Everbody has raced in our family. Her parents, grandparents, nieces," JR Billings said.Both of them rushed to Lowe's as soon as they found out their sister had died.Police say a person of interest has been taken into custody."I hope they charge him," Risley said.But until police release more information, family members only want to spend time with one another, as Janet Billings' friends and relatives came to her parents house to support them in a tragic time."There has been so many people in and out today, phone calls, text messages. It's amazing," Risley said.Family members opened the Janet Billings Memorial Fund at Brotherhood Bank and Trust to help pay for funeral expenses.
