Int J Vitam Nutr Res. 2007 Jul;77(4):272-9.Wu TC1, Huang YC, Hsu SY, Wang YC, Yeh SL.Author information1Chest Clinic, Chung Shan Medical University Hospital, Taichung, Taiwan, ROC.AbstractThe purpose of this study was to determine whether vitamin E or vitamin C supplementation alters the DNA damage of whole blood white blood cells (WBC) in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Thirty-five patients with stable COPD were recruited in this randomized and placebo-controlled study. Patients were randomly assigned to placebo (n = 8), 400 mg/day vitamin E (E400, n = 9), 200 mg/day vitamin E (E200, n = 9), or 250 mg/day vitamin C (C250, n = 9) for 12 weeks. The results showed that vitamin E or C supplementation did not significantly change the mean level of endogenous DNA breakages. Whereas, after 12 weeks of vitamin supplementation, the H2O2-induced DNA breakages were significantly suppressed by 45%, 59%, and 52%, respectively, in E400, E250 and C250 groups (p < 0.05). In addition, neither the level of thiobarbituric acid-reactive substances (TBARS) nor spirometric parameters were significantly changed after 12 weeks of supplementation.

In conclusion, vitamin E or C supplementation for 12 weeks may improve the resistance of DNA in whole blood WBC against oxidative challenge, although more research is needed to demonstrate the beneficial effect on slowing the decline of lung function in patients with COPD.PMID: 18271282 DOI: 10.1024/0300-9831.77.4.272 [Indexed for MEDLINE] Publication typesRandomized Controlled TrialResearch Support, Non-U.S. Gov'tMeSH termsAgedAged, 80 and overAscorbic Acid/administration & dosage*Ascorbic Acid/bloodComet AssayDNA DamageDietary SupplementsFemaleForced Expiratory Volume/drug effectsHumansMaleMiddle AgedOxidative Stress/drug effectsOxidative Stress/physiology*Pulmonary Disease, Chronic Obstructive/bloodPulmonary Disease, Chronic Obstructive/drug therapy*Pulmonary Disease, Chronic Obstructive/geneticsStatistics, NonparametricThiobarbituric Acid Reactive Substances/metabolismVital CapacityVitamin E/administration & dosage*Vitamin E/bloodSubstancesThiobarbituric Acid Reactive SubstancesVitamin EAscorbic AcidFull Text SourcesAtypon - PDFMedicalPulmonary Disease - Genetic AllianceChronic obstructive pulmonary disease - Genetic

Dramatically Increase Absorption* Liposomalized vitamin C is absorbed much more efficiently than traditional delivery methods.* Our liposomes measure 197 nanometers allowing the Vitamin C to have maximum bioavailability for the body, resulting in more nutrient being used and less excreted via urine. A huge advance in both efficiency and effectiveness of supplemental nutrients!* What Are Nanotechnology Liposomes?

Nanotechnology refers to the process of creating micro particles of the nutrient one wishes to coat with liposomes - in this case vitamin C. This requires expensive equipment and considerable time to complete. These micro particles are then inserted into special fat soluble materials resembling micro bubbles, just a few millionths of an inch in diameter, which are capable of sliding through the gut lining without being digested.* The "bubbles" are now in the blood stream and are offered to the cells of the body as needed. Similar to the gut wall, the cell wall loves liposomes because they are made up of similar material (phosphatydal choline, lecithin, phosphatydal serine, CLA, etc); once the enclosed vitamin C is delivered directly into the cell, the remaining liposomes are used by the cell wall for other functions within the cell.* A huge advance in both efficiency and effectiveness of supplemental nutrients!* ✔ Maintain Cell Protection From Free Radical Damage!* ✔ Perfect For High Dosage Users!
