Quicksilver Scientific Vitamin C with R-Lipoic Acid is the most absorbable form of professional-grade Vitamin C. Vitamin C is essential to any detoxification program because it feeds the system that eliminates toxins. It is also very effective in removing lead and other heavy metals from our system and fighting off the free radicals that form in the liver during the first phase of detoxification. R-Lipoic acid (as sodium R-Lipoate) has an exceptionally well-documented ability to upregulate the glutathione system via the Nrf2 nuclear transcription pathway. This combination of Vitamin C and R-Lipoate in a nanoliposomal delivery potently harnesses the potential of Vitamin C to the power of a fully-functioning glutathione system. About Quicksilver's Etheric Delivery™ Phospholipid Encapsulation System Quicksilver's Etheric Delivery™ Phospholipid Encapsulation System improves upon liposomal technology with smaller, more stable, single-layer spheres made from the highest-grade ingredients available.

In addition to exceptional absorption rates, the nanospheres that Quicksilver produces have demonstrated the ability to cross the blood-brain barrier, deposit their cargo intracellularly and enhance lymphatic circulation of nutrients. Additionally, the phospholipids that compose the liposome shell feed the cell membranes. This ensures the proper function for the absorption of nutrients and the excretion of cellular waste products and toxins. Tightly controlled small sizing, verified by Laser Dynamic Light Scattering on each batch. Flavored with essential oils, giving pleasant citrus taste, suitable for intra-buccal delivery. Precise pump delivery Easy water dispersability when desired In order to maintain the integrity of this product, 2nd day air shipping is strongly recommended. *These statements have not been evaluated by the FDA. Typical absorbtion of vitamins is poor, and liposomal encapsulation of vitamins have been shown to increase absorbtion five- to ten-fold. Our pharmaceucical-grade liposomal vitamins outperform non-liposomal vitamins thanks to small, stable, single-layer sphere made from the highest-grade ingredients available. Nanospheres like ours have demonstrated the ability to cross the blood-brain barrier, deposit their cargo intracellularly, and enhance lymphatic circulation of nutrients. In fact, phospholipid therapy, using both injectable forms and oral forms, has long and solid clinical history for repair and maintenance of liver function, circulatory health, and neurological health. WHAT MAKES A GOOD LIPOSOME? Liposomes are microscopic single- to multi-layer spheres made of phospholipids—the basic building blocks of cell membranes.

PuRxpressions™ engineers these phospholipids to encapsulate compounds, in order to bypass the digestive processes that normally degrades or limits compound absorption. Our liposomes bring the power of intravenous therapy into convenient oral delivery. Unlike other liposomes on the market that use low grades of phospholipids (e.g. raw lecithin), which breakdown and do not deliver compounds effectively, the high-phosphatidyl choline phospholipid mixes of PuRxpressions™ are smaller, more stable, and tightly distributed single-layer spheres (unilamellar vessicles). Our vesicles are small enough to begin absorption as soon as they hit your mouth, avoiding alteration by the harsh digestive processes. Most nutraceutical manufacturers typically use cheap shear methods resulting in large particles (200–600nm) that absorb poorly. Most of our particle systems fall in the same 50–100nm range that pharmaceutical companies target. Well-engineered liposomes have demonstrated the ability to cross the blood-brain barrier, deposit their cargo intracellularly, and enhance lymphatic circulation of therapeutic compounds.

The phospholipids that compose the liposome shell feed the cell membranes themselves. This promotes proper cellular function, like the absorption of nutrients and the excretion of cellular waste products and toxins.Although much of the research is still preliminary, exciting discoveries are being made on the role of nutrients in meningitis, especially anti-inflammatories and antioxidants. Evidence suggests that much of the damage caused by bacterial meningitis is due to overactivation of the immune system (Pathan 2003). This immune response is thought to be caused primarily by bacterial endotoxin, a poison (present in the bacteria) released when the bacterial cell disintegrates. Studies have clearly shown that degree of severity of bacterial meningitis is linked to the level of endotoxin (Brandtzaeg 1989). Once in the bloodstream, an endotoxin binds to a protein, appropriately called endotoxin-binding protein. This alters the endotoxin, enabling it to activate macrophages and other inflammatory cells.

Once activated, these cells secrete pro-inflammatory chemicals including TNF-α, interleukin 1(b), and interferon. At the same time, immune system cells called neutrophils are activated, releasing yet more inflammatory chemicals and enzymes, which damage blood vessels and the inner lining of body cavities (Klein 1996). The result is widespread inflammation and damage. By looking at the disease as an inappropriate immune response that touches off an inflammatory cascade, researchers are studying exciting new therapies to reduce the damaging consequences of meningitis. While these studies are ongoing, Life Extension believes that nutrients that fight inflammation can safely be considered in helping reduce the inflammation associated with meningitis. Some of these nutrients include: Antioxidants have also attracted attention among meningitis researchers. Studies have found that meningitis patients have oxidative stress caused by reactive nitrogen species in bacterial meningitis (Kastenbauer 2002).

Superoxide dismutase — In a mouse model of bacterial meningitis, the internal antioxidant superoxide dismutase (SOD) was studied for its ability to limit oxidative stress that caused damage to the ears. SOD, given by injection, was found to significantly reduce damage to the cochlea (Ge 2004). Vitamin C — Two studies have explored the relationship between the antioxidant vitamin C and bacterial meningitis. In some cases, CSF of children with meningitis showed elevated levels of vitamin C, while other studies showed a marked deficiency in vitamin C, suggesting that vitamin C is involved in the body's defense against free-radical associated damage (Caksen 2004; Vitamin C's decrease in CSF of patients with bacterial meningitis seems to be correlated with the increase in reactive molecules in the brain (Kastenbauer 2002; Together, these results suggest that vitamin C supplementation may be helpful in treating patients with bacterial meningitis. Melatonin — Melatonin is another nutrient studied in association with meningitis.

The CSF of patients with viral meningitis tends to have higher concentrations of melatonin. This suggests that melatonin may play an immunomodulatory role in viral meningitis (Silva 2005). In an exciting new animal study, rabbits received melatonin at 20 milligrams per kilogram (mg/kg) of body weight. Researchers found that rabbits, given melatonin simultaneously with infection, had higher levels of SOD and lower levels of dangerous reactive nitrogen species. This suggests that melatonin had protective effects against infection (Gerber 2005). Life Extension and its founders have devoted themselves to pushing the knowledge of health beyond rigid, conventional boundaries. Although individual components of the information given here have been published in studies, there have been no clinical trials to support these recommendations in their entirety. In some cases, we are basing our recommendations on observations gleaned from decades of experience. However, these supplements may help ward off an infection in the first place, which would naturally reduce the chances of developing meningitis.
