Johor Bahru Legoland was the first such themed park in Asia. A world class family destination in southern Peninsula Malaysia, it consists of a theme park, water park, and a hotel all in one. Multi-day visits are the best way to get the most out of Legoland, with even the hotel being themed. There are dozens of rides and shows here that appeal to all ages. The Sultan of Johor opened the theme park in September, 2012, on a 50-hectare site which also houses a shopping mall and apartments. The main draw for visitors is Legoland which boasts around 70 rides, shows, and other attractions. There are rollercoasters, Ferris Wheels, and slides as well as large swimming pools and numerous interactive exhibits for young children. Much like Disneyland, it’s divided into themed sections such as the LEGO City, Imagination, and Land of Adventure. There is also a well designed Miniland with models of famous Asian landmarks constructed solely from Lego blocks. This mini world even has roads and trains which is on 1:20 scale.
The other main area of interest at the theme park is the Water Park. It’s also Lego-themed which comes with numerous slides and rides. There’s a wave pool, wading pool with water cannons, and a giant water slide. Children can also build their own Lego raft at the Build-A-Raft and sail down the custom river. This self contained part of the park can be enjoyed on its own or together with the main park on a joint ticket. Johor Legoland is best enjoyed by obtaining the combined ticket and staying overnight at the on-site Lego-themed hotel. It has themed rooms, including the pirates theme, and has many attractions of its own like a castle. Rooms have divided sleeping areas, some with bunks, and there are deluxe rooms for bigger families or groups. The hotel has a themed restaurant, a bar and a terrace over the park. It’s in the Nusa Cemerlang Industrial Park in Johor Bahru which is southwest of the city and west of Singapore. It’s open daily from 10:00 to 18:00. As it resides near the equator, southern Malaysia is hot year round and has moderate rain through the year.
It’s cooler in December and January which is the peak season. The period between May and October is less predictable regards the weather as this is the annual slash and burn season in Sumatra when pollution levels can be high.
