The first American Legoland theme park, in Carlsbad, California, opened in 1999 with attractions designed to entertain children between the ages of 2 and 12. The park covers 128 acres and boasts more than 50 rides. In 2011, a second park opened in Winter Haven, Florida. Lego-philes of all ages will have a blast at either park, riding the rides and examining giant Lego models up close. Taking the average family of four to either park can set you back hundreds of dollars, but with a little effort, you may be able to find discounted tickets for everyone in your group. Buy an annual pass if you plan to visit Legoland more than once a year. Purchase an annual pass at a ticket booth at your chosen park, or go to the website of your chosen park and click "buy tickets." On the ticket page, click "membership" and choose the membership level that suits your needs and budget. Pay online and print out the confirmation email you'll receive. Take the confirmation to a ticket window at the theme park within three months of purchasing your pass.

You'll receive a membership card that you can then present for unlimited access to the park for 12 months. Contact your benefits association. Some worker organizations have access to discounted tickets to attractions, such as Legoland; for instance, Los Angeles city workers who belong to the All City Employee Benefits Services Association can save 22 percent on one-day passes to Legoland California. Call your association representative or visit the group's website, and buy tickets directly from the association to receive the discount. Present your airline employee ID to receive a 20 percent discount on up to six tickets at the California park. If you're a tour operator or travel agent, present a business card and photo ID at a ticket window at the California park, where you can buy two tickets at a 50 percent discount or up to six tickets at 20 percent off. Visit or call your Information, Tickets, and Travel Office if you're a member of the U.S. military. Purchase your Legoland California tickets through this office, or present your military ID at a ticket window at the California park for 10 percent off your ticket.

Arrive at the California park two hours before closing to buy half-price tickets good for the rest of that day only. You'll only have two hours to explore, but all the attractions will still be open and the park will be emptying out, reducing your wait times. Take your Florida State Department of Education teacher's certificate and your most recent paystub to a ticket window at the Florida park to receive a free, one-year pass to the park. You must also print out and bring a copy of a page from the Legoland Florida website; enter "teacher" in the site's search bar to find it.
