Lego Star Wars is a video game series based on the eponymous toy line created by the Lego Group based on the Star Wars movies. Traveller's Tales president Jon Burton stated in a July 2008 interview with Variety that the series had collectively sold 15 million copies.[1] In May 2009, Wired reported combined sales of 20 million.[2] All the games were included in the Player's Choice, Platinum Hits, and Greatest Hits budget lines.This article is not part of the Harry Potter universe. This article covers a subject that is part of the real world, and thus should not be taken as a part of the Harry Potter universe. Since the success of the films, different gaming companies have produced several video games based on the Harry Potter series, most notably Electronic Arts (EA) and Traveller's Tales (TT). While the Lego Harry Potter games are sold on various markets, the Electronic Arts series is only available for discs/DVD distribution.
In 2001, gaming company Electronic Arts (previously known as EA Games) began releasing adaptations of each of Warner Bros. Harry Potter films, with a considerable respect to the original plot in the book franchise. Eight videogames have been released with the exact titles its film counterparts have in the US: The game series as a whole is highly heterogeneous, since the versions for each platform of each title may have its own gameplay and features. In 2003, after the second game, Electronic Arts also released a Quidditch-focused game entitled Harry Potter: Quidditch World Cup. See List of Harry Potter cast members. Four titles of videogames based on LEGO Harry Potter toy series by the famous block-building toy company LEGO have been released. They feature LEGO toy versions of Harry Potter characters, places and items in cartoon-styled, speechless, often comedic animations, typical to LEGO videogames. Different companies have released these games in two occasions, one at the beggining of the film series and the other near its conclusion.
In 2001, Superscape produced a computer game based on LEGO Harry Potter building toy series: LEGO Creator: Harry Potter, which was published by LEGO subsidiary LEGO Media. The game was part of the LEGO Creator video game series. A sequel based on the second film, entitled LEGO Creator: Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets was produced by Warner Bros. Interactive in 2002 and also published by LEGO Media. The two releases received much less attention in comparison to the concurrent Electronic Arts series, thus no more sequels in LEGO Creator Harry Potter series were lately published. With the film series about to conclude in 2010, LEGO re-acquired rights on the Harry Potter series and, together with its new toy sets, planned the release of a remastered video game based on the Harry Potter series. Traveller's Tales (TT) then produced LEGO Harry Potter: Years 1-4, as part of the LEGO video game series. Focusing on the first four years in the Harry Potter series, the game featured a very detailed and consistent gameplay, in addition to the original soundtrack used in the films.
After the large success and positive reviews acquired by LEGO Harry Potter: Years 1-4, TT produced a sequel focused on the last three years of the series, entitled LEGO Harry Potter: Years 5-7, which also received good reviews. The two games were published by Warner Bros. Interactive for most platforms. SCE London Studio, a subsidiary of Sony Computer Entertainment, released a PlayStation-exclusive game called Wonderbook: Book of Spells (or just Book of Spells) in 2012. Directly crediting J. K. Rowling rather than the film series, the game simulates spell learning with a wand, through the Book of Spells by Miranda Goshawk. A similarily-styled sequel entitled Wonderbook: Book of Potions (or Book of Potions), focused on Zygmunt Budge's Book of Potions, was released in 2013. In 2012, Eurocom developed a Xbox 360 game designed for the Kinect accessory based on Harry Potter films. The title was Harry Potter for Kinect. It consists mainly of minigames based on clips from the film series.
Lego The Hobbit is a Lego-themed action-adventure video game developed by Traveller's Tales. The game was released by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment on 8 April 2014 in North America, and 11 April in Europe. The game is a follow-up to Lego The Lord of the Rings based on the first two Hobbit films An Unexpected Journey and The Desolation of Smaug.[1] It was released on PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Wii U, Nintendo 3DS, OS X and Microsoft Windows. 3 The Battle of the Five Armies The game shows several features from the previous games, including a feature where the user should locate specific materials to build a big Lego object. When the user selects and input the correct materials a screen is displayed where the Lego machine is built and the player should select the correct pieces in exchange for studs. Also the characters have different actions to perform, making the Dwarf Company a group with different capabilities during the mission, including someone with archery abilities, another that uses a big hammer that can move big objects, another with the ability to extract minerals from stones, and so on.
Bilbo improves his abilities as the game advances: when he gains Sting he has the ability to be a more skilled fighter; and when he gets the One Ring he can disappear and build invisible Lego structures. The game, similar to the latest Lego video games, is composed on a big map, rather than a single hub. The player can move among different events where different characters ask the player to retain a specific material from a mission or to exchange materials. However, the developers modified the storylines to fit the events into a number of game chapters per film, as well as adding the humour the series has become known for. It was reported at the London Toy Fair in January 2014 that a DLC would be released covering the events of the final film in The Hobbit series, to be released around the time of the film at the end of that year.
