How about one made of Legos? The new world’s largest Lego model has been officially unveiled and happens to be a fantastically large X-Wing Fighter. It’s always impressive to see larger-than-life figures made entirely out of Lego, and over the years there are quite a few people that have gotten very good at it. In fact, it feels like every few months there’s an all new mind blowing creation made out of those iconic bricks. Lego has arranged for an all new project to take the title of world’s largest model made of everyone’s favorite bricks around a massive steel frame. Just in time for the release of the new Cartoon Network series The Yoda Chronicles Lego is showing off a 1:1 scale X-Wing Fighter in New York’s Times Square for the next few days.
Over the past year, a team of 32 people have been assembling this new masterpiece brick by painstaking brick. The date of the unveil intentionally falls on the 30th anniversary of the theatrical opening of Return of the Jedi, in which you see no shortage of the famous Star Wars spacecraft. The 11-foot tall craft weighs in at nearly 46,000 pounds due to the steel frame and 5,335,500 little bricks. This model is 42 times larger than the original X-Wing Lego model, and is specifically designed to look like it was constructed out of gigantic versions of the Lego bricks that are used to assemble that kit. If you’re in NYC through the weekend, you’ll be able to see and even climb into the cockpit of this massive vehicle. After the weekend, the X-Wing will be taken apart and shipped to California, where it will be reassembled inside the Legoland resort and made available for everyone to climb inside and enjoy.
