Inspired by the film andAre you still fascinated by LEGOs? Is Wall-E still your favorite robot? Well then, you could soon have a change to build your own official Lego Wall-E. The lovable trash-collecting robot has been relived in Lego bricks by Wall-E movie’s lead animator Angus MacLane, and presently the model is being considered by Lego as an official product of the brand. Guys over at DIYMakers have created a very responsive and cute Arduino controlled Wall-e robot that was initially a lifeless Wall-e toy purchased from an online store. After getting the toy at their doorstep the team decided they wanted to put the Wall-e to life by having movable arms, head, drive wheels, illuminated eyes and LED bar just like as it was shown in the blockbuster animated movie Wall-e. To make sure that the toy didn’t collide with any obstacles while moving, two infrared sensors are attached to the neck and bottom of the body. For movement of arms and head 5V micro servomotors are used and for movement on the tracks a rotation servo motor is used that provides enough traction for moving the toy.

All this is of-course controlled by an Arduino controller (Arduino Uno Rev 3) that keeps all the electronics in sync for this Wall-e robot. The Pixar movie Wall-E really captured our hearts with all the emotions portrayed in a robot that falls in love with another robot EVA from some hi-fi galaxy. Well now an amazing DIY has brought the adorable Wall-E robot straight off the silver screen onto the streets. Created by Mike McMaster with help from his buddy Mike Senna, the fully functional Wall-E robot is simply amazing and truly looks like the real brother of its computer graphics generated character in the movie. The robot has full head movement courtesy servos with eyebrow raising action, movable hands via the linear actuators and independent movement for lower body that rests on carefully crafted treads which provide smooth movement on any surface. MOCpages user Mister Lego has been a dedicated Wall E fan – he had previously created a motorized Lego version of the Wall E robot that could move its arms and had a bug friend along.

He is now back with the version 2.0 of his Lego Wall E that people have actually liked in more ways than one. This second version of Disney-Pixar’s Wall E is immensely detailed and is more accurate to the real than its predecessor. It, like the first version, features moveable arm and a very detailed moving head that took Mister Lego the longest to make. In case you don’t have a task you want the Wall E to undertake then the Wall E here can easily tuck away its arms outside its chest compartment that can be opened to show a compact storage area. Transformable Wall-E gets recreated with some love, Lego and DIY skills (video) Sure, you'll have seen Lego-based Wall-E imitators before, but few recreate both the cuteness and the basic functionality of the drone quite like this one here. Programmed using Lego Mindstorms, this adorable little creation can transform itself into a box (like the real Wall-E!), pick up and carry objects, look up and down, and even produce and respond to sounds.

It can be controlled remotely or left to do things by itself. Follow the break to see it on video. The five on-board building experiences cover a lot of ground, from a robot to a guitar, to quasi Lego “3D printer” that’s more like an assembly line Rube Goldberg-style device that pieces together its own Lego creations.

The set is being couched as an educational kit, joining Lego’s line a step down in difficulty from the company’s much-loved Mindstorm line. As with many other recent educational toys, the product has some very basic elements of coding baked into the connected Android/iOS app. While the company is hesitant to make claims that it will actually teach kids how to code, it’s an attempt to lay some of that early groundwork. The kit is designed for kids aged seven and up and is built around a Move Hub, which utilizes a variety of sensors like tilt, color and distance that help the different designs perform a variety of automated tasks laid out on the app through a series of actionable items on a timeline. The first creation designed to be built out of the box is Vernie, a sort of Johnny 5/Wall-E-esque robot programmed to project a personality – which is what Johnny 5/Wall-E-esque robots do best – in order to develop a personal connection with the kids, before the inevitable time comes to tear him down and build something new.

He has articulating facial features and will repeat your name back to you. The set consists of 543 piece, which are – as with all of Lego’s offerings – compatible with different kits. The set will arrive in the second half of the year, priced at $160, and is the first of what Lego expects to be a larger line of educational sets for kids who aren’t quite ready to make the jump to Mindstorms.
