Lego USBs and USB Flash Chip Price Update We must of all sometime in our life played with Lego, maybe as a kid or maybe your kids play with it now, there is no doubt Lego has tested time and still lives on. Lego saw it’s status raised after launching a successful series of console games spread across all platforms. Lego – Star Wars, Lego – Indian Jones. Well now they are making Lego shaped USB people. Some think they have missed an opportunity with USB People already having a major foot hold in the market of people shaped USB’s. Our sister website www.usbpeople.co.uk has been promoting USB shaped people since April 2009There are over 50 styles of USB people to choose from and you can even create your own character, need a fireman… no worries, getting married and need a Bride and Groom designed USB people… considered them made. The only limitation when designing your bespoke USB people is your imagination!!! The new Lego characters look set for the end user market and are not currently positioning themselves in the logo branded promotional USB sector.
So far they are only available in the US. With regards to the price increase on Nand USB Flash Chips, good news, today we saw USB flash chips retrace in price, all but one capacity of flash chip falling to lower levels. The biggest movement was in the 8Gb chips which has gone from being up $2.10 earlier this week to settle pre weekend at +$0.31, a weekly change of -$1.97. The price decrease is as foretold in my previous blog. We are now expecting future price reductions over the forth coming weeks as the Nand flash markets are restored back to the prices seen prior to the Japanese tsunami. We’ve seen all sorts of odd and novelty USB flash drives over the years (check out the Star Trek set), but none that can be used as a piece of a larger construction. Cue PNY‘s new partnership with LEGO, and the plastic-brick storage devices that naturally follow. PNY has launched a line of LEGO flash drives, with each one (you can get them in blue, red, and yellow) being compatible with an ordinary LEGO brick. You can build onto the flash drive if you want, or include it in some larger construction if you find a compelling enough reason. The flash drive is available in both 8GB and 16GB capacities, and is fitted with a keychain loop for putting it on your key ring. With the order comes a complementary second LEGO block — just a block — the purpose for which isn’t entirely clear. The flash drive is USB 2.0, with a slide-out construction rather than an end cap. USB flash drives are generally not interesting enough to write news posts about, but today we were persuaded by PNY's new adorable device. The company has partnered with the Lego group to build a USB 2.0 flash drive in the shape of a Lego brick. (Okay, we've seen these before, but c'mon, it's Lego.) The USB drives will be available in various distinct Lego colors in both 8 GB and 16 GB capacities. They will have a capless sliding design and come with a key fob so you can attach it to your keychain. But let's not forget the most important specification: The USB drive is compatible with regular Lego bricks. That last specification is both what makes this product as cool as it is worrisome. It will be a perfect way of hiding your USB drive, but it's also the perfect way of losing track of it, only to find it again 10 years later in some forgotten bin of Legos. Pricing is set at $7.99 for the 8 GB model and $12.99 for the 16 GB unit. Included in the packaging is the USB drive itself, along with a single 2 by 4 Lego brick.
