CAT service and loved it.Through SpecialEffect, I was set the task of replicating Kent CAT's brilliant adapted train-set (which I had previously seen at their Techno Talk event), but using a switch adapted Doro infra-red learning remote, which they had said they couldn't get to work. I was pleased to learn that although fiddly to teach the infra-red codes (you have to spin the orange speed control fast for a fairly short-burst of time), once it is working, it seems to stay working. Even when you remove the batteries for a short-time.And as a nod to the adapted train-sets spanning back decades, here's a link to many more. Just great to find a relatively simple way to get modern day train-sets working. Find more D.I.Y. details at the YouTube page.

Last year I posted a list of LEGO events in the UK (2015) on my personal blog which was popular way beyond my expectations (clearly, there are a lot of LEGO fans in the UK!). So, this year (well, several months in advance!), I’ve started compiling a new list of AFOL/LEGO events in the UK in 2016. This is really handy for LEGO fans of any age, but especially Adult Fans of LEGO (AFOLs) whose memory is not quite a good as it used to be – I really struggle to remember dates for these, and don’t want to double-book if I can avoid it! And for those of you interested, the photo above is from my exhibit at Bricktastic 2015 in Manchester. Some of these events aren’t just LEGO (!), but feature other exhibits too. I’ve tried to mark these where possible. As always, always check with the organisers before traveling any distance, and details (dates/times/attractions/prices) are subject to change! This time of year is a quiet one for LEGO events. I think this late summer period is the busiest for LEGO exhibitions, etc, in the UK (for me, at least!).

This 610-pice set includes 3 mini figures so there's everything you need for great railway adventures.Useful info:Lego City High Speed Passenger Train - 60051Includes 3 mini figures: train driver, traveler and a cyclist610 piecesFeatures motorized locomotive with 8-channel, 7-speed infrared remote control,Comes with 16 curved rail tracks and 4 straight rail tracksAge from 6 years

The Trains subtheme (it was rolled under City when the switch from 9V took place) is now extremely limited, often to 3 sets every 4 years (passenger train, freight train and station) with occasional level crossings or track packs interspersed - the year after normally has a freight train, except with a more limited release. The last batch of trains were in 2014, so the next 'range' isn't due until 2018.As for other things you've mentioned, turntables and viaducts have never been officially released (for any train type), and signals are a rarity. Inclines were only released during grey/blue era, but were suggested in ideas books.Lego do some train parts under Bricks & Pieces, and Bricklink & Ebay sellers have many parts, part and complete sets and custom models for sale.

@MattDawson Thanks for the info! I do recall inclines for the old blue tracks, so it's weird that they stopped doing them. With regards to the rest, I'll just have to try and grab a station via eBay, Bricklink or Amazon I suppose. And maybe look for a MOC buffer instructions somewhere.I'll be attempting to install the battery pack and motor from the High Speed Train into the Winter Train tomorrow night so my son will wake up to his train magically traveling around the Christmas tree on Sunday morning. Good job the Winter Train has installation instructions in the back of the manual. Also, the newest trains have been on sale recent for good prices, so I would caution on not paying RRP for them. , and others have had the #60052 for as low as around 100 USD and the High speed passenger train for around 90 USD. You may have to wait to see deals that good again (likely by next fall) but I would definitely not buy them at RRP. @madforLEGO Fear not, I didn't pay RRP for any of them, which is why I ended up buying them.

Seemed like a bargain, by Lego standards anyway. You should be able to find the #60050 Train Station without too much hunting.  There were also a few great train based sets (the engine shed and cargo crane come too mind) in the World City range. Aftermarket prices on train based stuff can be ludicrous but most sets can be brick linked (with minor subs as necessary) for a fraction of the cost of buying the sets. There are a couple of cross track designs on YouTube. We built this one and it worked well.http://deafpilotboytv.blogspot.co.uk/2014/02/build-lego-train-x-cross-track.htmlYou can also buy instructions on ebay for some MOC buildings. The Switch Tower cost us about £80 using a mix of new and used bricks. It's a nice building as a standalone model and currently sits on a shelf next to our other modular buildings.http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LEGO-Train-Switch-Tower-CUSTOM-Model-PDF-Instructions-Manual-/262390475359 The same seller also has a modern railway station.http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LEGO-MOC-Town-City-Train-Station-CUSTOM-Model-PDF-Instructions-Manual-/262415082502The roof of the station is still my favourite thing that I've built since getting back in to Lego.

It cost around £100-150 to source the bricks for the set. We were fortunate to find the 1x2x2 trans clear panels on the PAB wall as that saved us quite a bit. ///sch/jrguettler/m.html?item=252654289721&hash=item3ad35e8339:g:2LIAAOxyOlhSsFGn&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2562The #7996 cross-over is the creme-da-la creme of Lego track//store/home.page?p=AggieSava&itemID=16882527#/shop?o={"itemType":"I","catID":"124"} Bottom line is that Lego has pretty much have abandon the hobby side of model railroading and some enthusiasts and entrepreneurs are picking up some of the slack.Last but not least is that you have one of the best Lego Train clubs, PennLug, in your general area. #60050 has £11 off at Argos right now, OOS though. That's an official set just screaming for a good MOCing. The #60050 Train station could be had for as low as 40 dollars before and on BF at various retailers in the US. Great deal for the train station IMOS=7996-1&ColorID=0Good grief, are those #7996 pieces really so expensive?
