Hottest Toys for Tween Boys that will Make their Birthday EPIC! - Best Gifts Top Toys15 Great Toys for 10-Year-Old Boys How do you know they're great? Some 10-year-old boys say so! Are you looking for some fun toys for your tween son? When looking for games, Kim Vandenbroucke, game reviewer at The Game Aisle, a toy industry blog, recommends finding one "with an engaging theme that will entice boys to open the box and find out what the game is about."Here are some suggestions of great toys for 10-year-old boys, with comments from 10-year-olds themselves: Monster of a Board Game "Each player is a mutant monster trying to take over the city and become the King of Tokyo," Vandenbroucke says of the King of Tokyo Board Game. "Players roll dice to cause destruction, heal themselves and whack each other. Between the amazing artwork and the easy-to-learn play, this one should be a hit with any 10-year-old boy!" Josh, a 10-year-old from Virginia, agrees. "It was easy to learn, and it was fun for my family," he says.

Ticket to Ride is a "newer classic that will appeal to boys who enjoy games that require strategy and thought," says Vandenbroucke. "Using a U.S. map, players race to connect two cities on a card by placing their train on designated railway routes. The more tickets you complete and railway routes you claim, the more points you score." Josh's take on it: "This is also a good game for our whole family. It doesn't take too long to play, and it's really fun!"  Many 10-year-old boys like toys that allow them to be active. For kids who love to jump, try the Flybar Foam Master Pogo Stick. It's the perfect size and allows beginner and intermediate jumpers to burn off steam. Ten-year-old Daniel from New Jersey says, "I love to jump on my pogo stick. It lets me go higher than just my feet!"  Nerf guns are a fun, safe choice for target practice or pretend battles with friends. Bullets are designed with suction cups on the end, so they stick to windows and walls. "I like to have Nerf gun wars with my friends," says Josh.

For sports toys for 10-year-old boys, try something new -- Pickleball! This fun sport uses a paddle larger than a ping-pong paddle but smaller than a tennis racket. Set up a net or play on a flat surface. "Pickleball is a multi-generational sport that allows kids to play both recreationally and even competitively with parents and grandparents," says Justin Maloof, executive director of the USA Pickleball Association."Also, the rules are simple and the skill set is very familiar to anyone who has played a racquet sport, such as tennis, racquetball or badminton. This allows beginners and kids an opportunity to play the game almost immediately." Matthew, 10, of Massachusetts, says Pickleball is "easy to learn and really fun!"  For your 10-year-old builder, there's nothing better than LEGOs, the classic toy most every kid loves. There are lots of options out there, but Jurassic World Lego kits are popular at present. "I like LEGOs because you can pretty much build whatever you want," says Zack, 10, from Massachusetts.

"I like that I can be creative, or there are kits for movies and other things."  For some educational fun, try Bananagrams, a fast-paced game where players form words crossword-style with letter tiles. (The banana-shaped bag holds 144 tiles.) It doesn't require pencil, paper or anything else to play. "Bananagrams is fun because you can play with people from like 7 to 85!" says Michael, age 10, from New Jersey. Apples to Apples Fun Looking for a game that can keep a group of 10-year-olds in stitches? Try Apples to Apples Junior, a hilarious game that involves funny comparisons. (Don't tell the kids, but it can also help them improve their vocabulary and thinking skills while they're having fun!) "In Apples to Apples, you can be serious or you can be funny, which makes it more entertaining," says Michael, 10, from New Jersey.  Another laugh-out-loud game is 5 Second Rule, where players have five seconds to shout out items in a category (for example, three dog breeds or three types of cheese).

This is a great game for friends or families. "We love to play together at home," says Josh, "and sometimes we think of the funniest answers!"  For adventurous boys, try the Razor RipStik -- a cross between roller blading and skateboarding. Kids balance on two wheels, shifting their weight back and forth to keep the RipStik moving. "It can be a little hard to learn," says Daniel, "but once you figure it out, it's really fun!"  For kids who love flying, there's the Air Hogs Helix Quad Copter, a remote control stunt helicopter that performs barrel rolls and backflips with the touch of a button. "Air Hogs are SO cool," says Matthew. "You can fly them higher than some of the trees in my yard!"  For kids who love science experiments, Snap Circuits are a great way to learn about electricity. The manual offers easy-to-follow visual directions that teach kids how to build alarms, lights and more. Michael says he loves to "build lots of cool things. The flying saucer is the best!"  Here's another great toy for science lovers -- the Smithsonian Mega Science Lab.

It's a complete set of everything boys need to do six different experiments, including crystals and volcanoes! Matthew notes that "there are so many things to do in this science kit!"  Nok Hockey is a classic game that kids (and parents) love. Use the handheld sticks to aim the wooden puck toward the goal! "If you like sports, Nok Hockey is a good game. But even if you don't like sports, it can be fun," says Michael. "We play Nok Hockey a lot in school if we can't go out for recess, so I think it would be a really fun gift for a boy my age," he says.  Budding artists will love the Alex Essential Drawing Set, which includes everything (even a poseable wooden mannequin) needed to get started creating beautiful drawings. Michael says he thinks it makes a good gift for boys who like to draw. "I think it would be cool to learn to draw new things!" he adds. And check out these 25 Popular Kids Toys for Ages 2 Through 10.Jill Reed Siroty is a freelance writer and college instructor. takes a lighthearted look at family and parenting.
