On Thursday, Dec. 31, ring in 2016 at the high-energy Kids’ New Year’s Eve celebration, which features a LEGO brick-drop countdown to midnight Kid Standard Time (that’s 8 p.m. to moms and dads), a kid-centric dance party and a dazzling fireworks display to end the year with a bang. It’s all included with park admission. LEGOLAND® Florida Resort is helping fuel the future by bringing healthy food to hungry kids through a partnership with Agape Food Bank. This week, a group of Model Citizens from our Retail team helped with the Mobile Pantry Program at Mulberry Middle School Parent Resource Center in Mulberry, Fla. The volunteers were there from start to finish — setting up, sorting, making food selections, bagging and carrying groceries, pantry breakdown and site cleanup. Agape’s Mobile Pantry Program serves Florida’s Polk, Highlands and Hardee County. Each truck is loaded with more than 10,000 pounds of food and can serve up to 250 families. “It takes a minimum of 20 people to run a mobile pantry, and they are fully staffed by volunteers,” said Kim Long, director of Agape Food Bank.
“It’s through the generosity of volunteers and donors, like those from LEGOLAND Florida Resort, that we have been able to expand our outreach.” Merlin Entertainments, the parent company of LEGOLAND Florida Resort, encourages its employees to be passionate and caring contributors in their communities. It’s called Being a Force for Good. In October, our Food & Beverage team volunteered at a Mobile Food Pantry held at Sleepy Hill Elementary School in Lakeland, Fla. On Dec. 1, our Admissions team will support the Mobile Food Pantry at Garner Elementary School Parent Center in Winter Haven, Fla. Later this month, hundreds of Model Citizens will get in on the giving when LEGOLAND Florida Resort hosts its third annual employee food drive to support Agape Food Bank. The coolest new place to grab a sweet treat can be found in LEGO® City. Step inside the all-new Firehouse Ice Cream, where the crew serves up hand-dipped ice cream, floats, sundaes, specialty coffees and plenty of cool drinks.
To find out the best approach for a first-time visitor, we went in search of an ice cream expert. Meet Allie Guest, a 3-year-old brick fan who just happened to be our very special guest recently. All it took was the promise of some extra sprinkles and Allie showed us how to pick like a pro. She began by peeking into the cooler to check out the options. First, Allie was drawn to the bright green mint chocolate chip. After a taste test, she decided it was good but that chocolate really hit the spot instead. When it was time for toppings, Allie’s response was simple and direct. “I’ll take all of them,” she said. (There are 15, actually.) Mom helpfully translated for the Model Citizen taking Allie’s order and explained, “That means sprinkles and M&M’s.” Allie’s order was expertly assembled in a bowl with a cone on top. We call it the First Responder. Between bites, Allie explained that a “roller coaster smile” like the one she gave on Project X is different than one you show while eating ice cream, but she gave us a sweet grin to signal a successful order.
In gratitude for their service, all veterans of the U.S. Armed Forces can receive free admission to LEGOLAND® Florida Resort Nov. 1-22, 2015. Veterans also can purchase theme park tickets for up to six guests at a 50 percent discount on the same dates. To receive free admission and purchase discounted tickets, veterans must present valid military identification or proof of veteran status at a LEGOLAND Florida Resort ticket window on the day of their visit. On Wednesday, Nov. 11, in honor of Veterans Day, each U.S. service member can receive a free American flag wristband at the ticket windows.
