The deal is for a three season minimum, with work on the first season expected to begin this Autumn. The deal Amazon paid to sign the trio is unrevealed but said to be significant.

The main draw for the presenters though is the level of creative freedom offered on the new show. Fans of the BBC series may find themselves with something remarkably similar on their screens -- Clarkson owns the format rights to the series, which he reinvigorated in 2002."I feel like I've climbed out of a bi-plane and into a spaceship," Clarkson said of the deal. Hammond jokingly added "Amazon? I have already been there. I got bitten by a bullet ant." May, somewhat more seriously, said "We have become part of the new age of smart TV. "Customers told us they wanted to see the team back on screen, and we are excited to make that happen," said Jay Marine, vice president of Amazon Prime Video EU. "Millions of Prime members are already enjoying our ground-breaking original shows. We can’t wait to see what Jeremy, Richard, James and the team will create in what is sure to be one of the most globally anticipated shows of 2016."Following Clarkson's well-publicised bad behaviour -- punching and berating producer Oisin Tymon after shooting a Top Gear special earlier this year -- the BBC did not renew his contract.

In solidarity, Hammond and May chose not to renew their contracts, and another producer, Clarkson's school friend Andy Wilman, also left the show. Wilman will serve as a producer on the new Amazon series. New (6) from $13.15 + $4.99 shipping Ships from and sold by PREMIUM BRICKS LLC.
