Be sure to check out their awesome articles as well!)The LEGO Movie is arguably my favorite film ever. I may or may not have watched it five times in the first week after I bought it. The thing I love about it is that although it's in a CG world, Lego did all the right things to make it feel like you're actually in a world made of plastic bricks and not just watching another cartoon. But I'm not here to discuss that.

I'm here to discuss how the film looks from the perspective of the Master Builders. The story opens with Lord Business storming the secret hideaway that is protecting the relic known as the "Kragle" (Krazy Glue with bits of the label missing). Once inside, Lord Business has his henchmen blind Vitruvius with a laser pointer. As Lord Business and his forces are about to leave, Vitruvius suddenly announces a prophecy. This prophecy refers to "The Special", who will find the Piece of Resistance, and use it to thwart the Kragle. Lord Business pronounces the prophecy "a bunch of hippy-dippy BALONEY" and kicks Vitruvius off a cliff, leaving him to die. Now, from the perspective of the Master Builders, a disaster of catastrophic proportions has just taken place. The tyrannical and oppressive Lord Business has just gained the means to do... what? The Master Builders are unsure of Lord Business's intentions, but they know that whatever his intentions are, they don't bode well for the Lego Universe.

Vitruvius, leader of the Master Builders, has almost been killed in Lord Business's mad quest for power. This alone is sufficient threat to put them on edge. In order to protect themselves, they create a series of tunnels between worlds and erect defenses should Lord Business catch wind of their actions. They continue their existence in a constant state of anxiety, lest they be arrested... or worse. In the film, 8 and a half years pass, during which time the Master Builders continue working in secret to protect and defend from whatever evil plan Lord Business is hatching. Meanwhile, Emmet Brickowski, a regular, instruction-following, normal construction worker, goes about his daily routine blissfully unaware of the universe-altering events transpiring around him. Emmet is so much into obeying every single rule that his actions have almost no impact on those around him, nor is he considered to be unique. He's just a plain minifig trying to make his way in the universe. How does Emmet fit into the perspective of the Master Builders, then?

Well, the short answer is that at this point, he doesn't. The Master Builders have no knowledge of Emmet's existence. Not that it would matter much if they did, because he's just another mindless slave to Lord Business anyway. At this point, he's just another minifig. The Master Builders have no more reason to pay attention to him than to any other minifig. Here's what happens next in the movie. Emmet sees Wyldstyle at his construction site as she is about to locate the Piece of Resistance. Emmet tries to chase her, but falls in a hole, where he accidentally stumbles upon the Piece of Resistance and blacks out. He awakens to find it stuck to his back and also finds himself in the custody of Bad Cop, Lord Business's enforcer, hired specifically to hunt down and capture Master Builders. Wyldstyle, having realized Emmet's importance, rescues him and takes him to the Old West to meet Vitruvius. Vitruvius tells him that to become a Master Builder, all it takes is imagination. However, Bad Cop trails Emmet to the Old West via a tracking device he placed on Emmet's foot during his imprisonment.

Bad Cop and Lord Business's robot army begin chasing the group, only to have them rescued by Wyldstyle's boyfriend, Batman, who takes them to Cloud Cuckoo Land to meet the rest of the Master Builders. Arriving in Cloud Cuckoo Land, Emmet meets Princess Unikitty, an eternally optimistic hybrid of kitten and unicorn. Emmet then gives a speech to the Master Builders, but they reject him, saying that he is unfit to lead them. Before Emmet can respond, Bad Cop and his forces show up and arrest all of the Master Builders except Batman, Emmet, Wyldstyle, Unikitty, Vitruvius, and Benny, who escape in a submarine. While aboard the submarine, Emmet constructs the only original thing he's ever thought of: a double-decker couch, which he presents to his friends, only to have it ridiculed. However, when the submarine springs a leak and collapses, the Master Builders gain a new respect for Emmet's "pointless" invention when hiding inside its built-in drink coolers enables them to both survive the wreck and hide from Bad Cop's security detail sent to find them.

Metalbeard the pirate, also a Master Builder, arrives and the group create a plan to sneak inside Lord Business's office building. However, once they are inside, the group is summarily captured and Vitruvius is killed. Emmet, feeling that he is responsible for their predicament, casts himself into the Infinite Abyss of Nothingness when Lord Business leaves to activate the Kragle. The rest of the group, inspired by Emmet's sacrifice, manage to escape and broadcast a call to action using Lord Business's tv studio. This might sound like a mouthful to try explaining the Master Builders' view in, but actually, it's fairly straight-forward. The Master Builders at first believe they can finally defeat Lord Business once and for all, but when Emmet doesn't turn out to be everything they'd hoped, they become frustrated. However, Emmet's sacrifice for those who had lost confidence in him reanimates the group for one last-ditch effort to stop the impending Kragle-inflicted doomsday. The rest of the movie mainly takes place in the real world, but as far as the Master Builders' point of view is concerned, they begin an all-out assault on Lord Business's forces, who begin to overwhelm them due to vastly superior numbers.
