Augenzwinkernde Respektlosigkeit hat "The LEGO® Movie" zu seinem weltweiten Erfolg verholfen. Jetzt macht sich LEGO® Batman auf, die Welt zu retten – oder zumindest Gotham. In Gotham stehen weitreichende Veränderungen bevor, und wenn Batman verhindern will, dass der Joker sich die Stadt durch eine feindliche Übernahme einverleibt, muss er vielleicht endlich einmal sein Image vom einsamen Rächer revidieren und die Unterstützung anderer annehmen. Außerdem könnte es ihm auch nicht schaden, wenn er alles etwas lockerer sehen würde … Mit "The LEGO® Movie" gelang Phil Lord und Chris Miller ein irrwitziger Überraschungshit. So ist es nicht verwunderlich, dass nun der große Held – für den er sich zumindest selbst hält – des Ensembles seinen eigenen Film bekommt. Als bräuchte LEGO® Batman noch mehr Zuspruch für sein Ego. Aber er ist eben der coolste, schönste, muskulöste und überhaupt beeindruckendste Hauptdarsteller aller Zeiten …. – sagt er auch selbst über sich, ständig.
"Die 'LEGO® Movie'-Version von Batman wurde schnell zum Favoriten und ich bin mir sicher, dass er mit mir übereinstimmt, dass er einfach einen eigenen Film verdient hat", erklärt Chris Miller, der gemeinsam mit Phil Lord auch das Drehbuch für "The LEGO® Movie" schrieb. Auch wenn sie bei "The LEGO® Batman Movie" als Produzenten hinter dem Film stehen, übernahm die Regie dieses Mal ein anderer: Chris McKay, der bereits bei "LEGO®-Movie Erfahrungen mit dem schwarzen Rächer gesammelt hat. Aber da ein Held eben doch nicht alleine bleiben kann, bekommt LEGO® Batman Unterstützung von dem über positiven und agilen jungen Dick Grayson, auch bekannt als Robin und Barbara Gordon als Batgirl. Wie schon in "The LEGO® Movie" übernimmt im Original wieder Will Arnett ("Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows") die Stimme von LEGO® Batman. Zach Galifianakis spricht den Joker, Michael Cera ("Das ist das Ende") wird zu Robin und Butler Aflred wird von Ralph Finnes gesprochen.
