The game will let you step into the square, plastic shoes of Bilbo Baggins, Gandalf the Grey and 13 of their dwarf compadres as they journey to find adventure and fight the evil dragon Smaug. Dialogue from the movie provides the voices for the characters in the trailer, but the cutscenes retain the Lego tongue-in-cheek physical comedy familiar to fans of the video game franchise. However, you should be slaying orcs and smacking Smeagol within the next calendar year.

The first trailer for the upcoming “Lego The Hobbit” video game is out, revealing a comedic take on Middle-earth and its small-statured denizens. The game, which was announced in November, will be based on the first two films in Peter Jackson’s planned “Hobbit” trilogy — “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey” and the recently released “The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug.” Like TT Games‘ previous Middle-earth-themed installation “Lego The Lord of the Rings,” gameplay in “The Hobbit” will focus on solving puzzles, finding treasure and battling dark forces, including orcs, trolls and goblins. PHOTOS: 60 images from ‘Desolation of Smaug’ Gamers will be able to play as Bilbo (portrayed in the films by Martin Freeman), Gandalf the Grey (Ian McKellen) and all 13 dwarfs in the company. The trailer also features scenes with the cave-dwelling Gollum, hungry trolls, mischievous goblins and even Azog, the pale orc who hunts Bilbo and his companions throughout their journey.

Elves Tauriel and Legolas also make an appearance, wielding their bows and arrows, as well as wizard Radagast, with his rabbit-pulled sled. The game features Lego versions of key locations from the films, including Bag End, Bilbo’s Hobbit hole; “Lego The Hobbit” will be available in 2014 on major consoles as well as PC and Mac. Meanwhile, “The Desolation of Smaug” raked in a studio-estimated $73.7 million during its opening weekend. The third and final film in the trilogy, ‘The Hobbit: There and Back Again,” is slated for a December 2014 release. ‘The Hobbit’: 60 images from ‘Smaug’ Peter Jackson promises deeper characters for sequel ‘Hobbit’ sequel: Philippa Boyens talks Tauriel Luke Evans talks ‘Smaug’: ‘It’s better than the first one’ ‘Hobbit’: Ian McKellen talks ‘scruffy’ Gandalf ‘Hobbit’: Richard Armitage on Thorin’s madness ‘Hobbit’ premiere: Orlando Bloom, Luke Evans talk Smaug
