LEGO Technic Sets I Recommend (December, 2010) Honestly, it is hard to find LEGO Technic sets which include a good variety of parts. Most include the parts you’ll need in order to make a particular model, like a car or helicopter. In addition, the sets available in the USA differ from those in Japan, where I live. Of the sets sold in the USA, I think the best set is #8043 (Motorized Excavator). It’s slightly expensive, but it is worth a lot. It contains a motor, a remote control system, lots of gears. Next, I recommend #8053 (Mobile Crane). This set contains a lot of parts like gears, but it doesn't contain a motor. If you need a motor, I recommend set #8293 (Power Functions Motor Set). If you’re unable to find these sets, please enter the set number on the following page to see which parts are included in the sets. I also recommend the following set if you are an educator. It includes a motor as well as a good variety of parts. Even if you purchase the above sets, you will still not be able to build all of the models in the books because there are hundreds of LEGO Technic parts.
