Watch This Giant Star Wars LEGO Super Star Destroyer Crumble in Slow MotionEver wondered what a Super Star Destroyer looks like as it shatters in slow-motion? The team at Wired spent 16 hours and $800 building a Super Star Destroyer out of LEGO only to drop it and film it shattering into little pieces. The resulting video—shot at 1,000 frames per second—allows you to experience the destruction in all its brutal detail.Check out the video above.MORE Why I'm Giving Into My Feelings This Star Wars DayGiant Star Wars LEGO Super Star Destroyer Shattered What better way to celebrate the upcoming Star Wars Day than by watching a Super Star Destroyer shatter in slow-motion? For Star Wars day this year, Wired did something terrific and horrible. First they built a gigantic LEGO replica of a Star Destroyer. And then they demolished it in glorious, cringe-inducing slow motion. That initial slow-mo crash is sort of majestic in its wanton destruction, and mesmerizing enough that you can almost forget the true horror of what's going on. But at the end of the video when the show it at normal speed? Ugh, my soul hurts. However, any illusions we might have of expansive tastes or a refined palate go out the window when you start talking about slow-motion videos of LEGO Star Wars vehicles being destroyed.

So when the crew behind Battle Damage decided to celebrate Star Wars Day 2015 by spending 16 hours building an $800 LEGO Star Destroyer—only to film it taking a nose dive in slow-motion—we were more than a little excited. When they followed that up by assembling and then exploding six more Lego Star Wars vehicles, we wanted to throw them a Royal Award Ceremony on Yavin 4. And now, to prepare for the release later this week of Rogue One—a story about the detailed steps it takes to carry out an epic destruction—we pulled all of those LEGO Star Wars destruction videos (and the behind-the-scenes looks at how they did it) in one place. Watch your childhood dreams come true. Try not to cheer when LEGO Admiral Piett flies from his post as this giant Imperial ship falls to its demise. How We Epically Obliterated an $800 Lego Star Destroyer Sometimes, peeking behind the curtain takes the magic away, but this video is more fun than the original. It’s got it all: time-lapsed Lego building, sweaty-palmed guys in lab coats, and a 1,000 frames-per-second Phantom camera on a custom track.

The Ultimate Star Wars Lego Destruction MashupAccidentally dropping an elaborate Lego set and having it smash to thousands of pieces can be heart-breaking—unless you did it on purpose with a high-speed camera filming. But why rely on gravity when explosives make Lego slow-motion destruction even more satisfying? The YouTubers at Glorious Eye Candy built an elaborate Star Wars Lego diorama and then utterly destroyed it using explosives, pyrotechnics, and lots of wonderful eye candy that goes boom. They also filmed the diorama’s destruction with a Phantom Flex camera running at 3,000 frames per second. The results are just as enjoyable as The Force Awakens was, even if the ending—hundreds of dollars worth of Lego going boom—might bring you to tears.

Video: Smashing a €715 LEGO Star Wars 'Super Star Destroyer' in slow motion looks as fun as it sounds We’d love to do this in the office. We’d also love $800 (€715) to spend on any LEGO set that we’re just going to destroy as soon as it’s complete. Luckily for the good folk over at WIRED, that’s exactly what they did over the Bank Holiday weekend, as they pieced together the humongous $800 Super Star Destroyer LEGO set all so they could smash it in super slow-motion.To celebrate May the fourth, of course. Unfortunately for us regular LEGO fans, the Super Star Destroyer featured in the clip is now a ‘retired product’, but it’s dimensions are still worth a mention. According to LEGO, this particular set features over 3,000 pieces and measures nearly 50 inches (124.5 cm) and weighs nearly 8 pounds (3.5 kg). You can check out pics of the retired set over here.
