Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi After rescuing Han Solo from the palace of Jabba the Hutt, the rebels attempt to destroy the second Death Star, while Luke struggles to make Vader return from the dark side of the Force. This is a great question and is an active topic on the Web. There seem to be a few different schools of thought on this question. The two extremes seem to be 6-years-old and 10-years-old.  Supporters of waiting until ten are concerned about the level of violence in the film. The challenge of waiting so long, however, is that kids (especially boys) are aware of Star Wars at a very early age -- as early as 3 and almost always by 5 or 6. Two great articles on this topic:January 2009 article in Wired: "Age Appropriate Geek: What Age Should my Boys Watch Star Wars?"/geekdad/200...April 2009 story in Slate:"Why does Star Wars still take over the minds of small boys?"/id/2215160/UPDATE:It's been a year since I wrote this answer, and my view has changed somewhat.

In general, I agree with Steve Nixon's point that the violence in Star Wars is somewhat harmless because it's right/wrong cartoon violence, like in comic books.People I trust have told me that kids don't internalize / absorb the really violent parts of the movie that I think are particularly scary: (1) Leia being tortured on the Death Star (the brief scene where Vader shows up with a needle), (2) the massacre of Alderaan, (3) Vader's general violent demeanor and actions, (4) the massacre of Luke's family on Tatooine.Of course, all of this could be a rationalization for the fact that, like Steve Nixon, I simply don't want to wait any longer. Most of my kids' friends have watched the movies. Plus, we've read all the Harry Potter books where the violence was much more personal and arguably graphic. 68 used & new from Warner Bros Interactive Entertainment UK Note: Physical products come sealed in their original packaging, directly from the manufacturer.
