"After investigations, we have concluded the pilot of the plane and the airline LaMia are responsible for the crash," Claros told reporters on Tuesday. During an interview with the No Lies program, Claros said a LaMia shift supervisor and a regional director in Santa Cruz are now under investigation. Claros denied any alleged links between LaMia and President Evo Morales.
"We rely on serious, objective information and there is no presumed relationship between the president and the company LaMia," Claros said. Claros said legal procedures are being initiated against authorities working for the Directorate General of Civil Aviation and the Administration of Airports and Auxiliary Services of Air Navigation who allegedly evaded carrying out their duties.Colombia plane crash brings tragic halt to fairytale rise of Chapecoense soccer club The LaMia Flight 2933 charter plane, headed from Bolivia to Medellin for the championship match of the Copa Sudamericana, crashed Nov. 28 into mountainous terrain near Rionegro, Colombia. Most of the victims were members of the Chapecoense Brazilian soccer team -- 19 of which were players and 25 of which were team executives. The South American Football Confederation awarded Chapecoense the Copa Sudamericana title following the incident. A collective memorial service was later held in the team's Arena Condá stadium, which was attended by FIFA President Gianni Infantino and Brazil's national team coach Adenor Leonardo Bacchi, better known as Tite.
Previously, Bolivian Minister of Defense Reymi Ferreira said the pilot of the doomed plane was a "murderer." Ferreira said there were no mechanical or technical failures in the tragedy -- just the pilot's negligence. Ferreira said the pilot, who was a part owner of LaMia Airlines, also did not immediately reveal that the plane was in an ongoing emergency due to limited fuel to avoid facing sanctions against the company.Bill Gates’ effort to donate 100,000 chickens to impoverished countries has met resistance from the Bolivian government, which has refused its portion of the poultry donation and labelled the gift as "offensive". The Gates Foundation announced in June this year that it was partnering with charity organisation Heifer International for a project dubbed “ Coop Dreams ”, which aims to distribute 100,000 chickens among countries with high poverty levels, mainly throughout sub-Saharan Africa, but also Bolivia. “When I was growing up, chickens weren’t something you studied, they were something you made silly jokes about,” Gates says in a blog post titled 'Why I would Raise Chickens'.
“It has been eye-opening for me to learn what a difference they can make in the fight against poverty. It sounds funny, but I mean it when I say that I am excited about chickens.” The Bolivian government has not, however, been receptive to Gates’ philanthropic gesture. "He does not know Bolivia’s reality to think we are living 500 years ago, in the middle of the jungle not knowing how to produce," said Bolivia’s minister of rural development and land, César Cocarico, according to Reuters. "Respectfully, he should stop talking about Bolivia, and once he knows more, apologise to us." Bolivia says it already produces 197 million chickens per year, and has the capacity to export 36 million chickens. More generally, a recent report from the International Monetary Fund predicted that Bolivia’s GDP will grow by 3.8% in 2016. The World Bank says economic growth in Bolivia has averaged 4.8% over the past seven years, but notes that "despite these advances, moderate poverty affects nearly half of the population and income inequality continues to be high".
