The first trailer for Spider-Man: Homecoming has proven quite popular, with fans getting excited about seeing Tom Holland’s first feature-length adventure as Spider-Man. The trailer does a decent job of teasing the conflicts in the movie, while still establishing how early in his career as Spider-Man Peter Parker really is. As positive as the reception for the trailer has been, though, one fan felt that it was missing something: LEGO bricks. Fortunately, through the power of stop-motion animation, this oversight has now been corrected and the Spider-Man: Homecoming trailer can be seen in all of its blocky glory. The Homecoming LEGO trailer was created by YouTube user Darren Taylor for his DT98Films channel, where he posts a number of other LEGO creations. The trailer uses the audio and title cuts from the official trailer, but all of the live-action sequences have been replaced by stop-motion LEGO sequences and computer-generated effects. Clay and 2D backgrounds are used in some spots to create effects or scenery pieces that weren’t possible with standard LEGO bricks, either because of the limitations of Minifig design or the sheer amount of time (and spare bricks) that would be required to build certain things (like the ship from the trailer) to scale.

This isn’t Taylor’s first experience with LEGO versions of comic properties, either. In addition to creating sequences based on Marvel characters and storylines such as “LEGO Daredevil vs. Punisher”, “World War Hulk” and “LEGO Injustice” (a film series based on DC’s Injustice: Gods Among Us), he has also created LEGO versions of fight sequences from Doctor Strange, Daredevil and DC’s Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice. He also crafted a LEGO version of the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 teaser trailer before turning his attention to Spider-Man: Homecoming. Given the popularity of LEGO products and their part in popular culture, it’s interesting to think about what a LEGO Spider-Man movie might be like. After all, we’re getting LEGO Batman… why not Spidey? Though some of the effects in this trailer are crude, they still paint an interesting picture of what a LEGO film starring your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man might look like. The only thing that it would need to really capture that offbeat LEGO feel is a LEGO Spider-Car and perhaps an appearance from The Spectacular Spider-Ham (who despite appearances is a spider who was bitten by an irradiated pig, and not the other way around).

Of course, some may balk at the simple effects and workarounds that Taylor used to recreate some of the scenes from the official trailer. Given how quickly he got the trailer out, however, and the limitations you face when restricting yourself to LEGO products, the short is still a solid piece of work. For those who enjoyed it, though, Taylor has a “Scarlet Spiders” series that he’s been working on that should provide fans with more spider action in the future. DT98Films has recreated the entire trailer with the beloved building blocks, with the help of The Brick Ranger and Paradox Pictures. It's an impressive feat, with some of the highlights including the opening scene with Spider-Man stopping an attempted robbery by the Shocker's henchmen and the ending sequence that shows Spidey holding together two pieces of a ship. You can view the trailer in the video above. A young Peter Parker/Spider-Man (Tom Holland), who made his sensational debut in Marvel Studios' Captain America: Civil War, begins to navigate his newfound identity as the web-slinging superhero in Spider-Man: Homecoming.
