The sets you begged your parents to buy. The borderline structurally sound fortresses that overtook your childhood bedroom. The sharp, incomparable pain of accidentally stepping on one with bare feet. But how well do you really know them? We pulled back the curtain on the Danish mini brick masters and dug up 12 things that might surprise you. 1. They’re the largest tire manufacturer in the world. In fact, they turn out more per year than Goodyear and Bridgestone. How many does it take to be at the top? 381 million mini tires. 2. Over 4 billion minifigs have been produced to date. These are the little dudes with cupped hands, and they're expected to exceed the human population by 2019.

Think about that for a second. Ok, now keep reading. 3. They make a special series just for adults called Serious Play. This line consists of kits sold to businesses for team building purposes, and are designed to enhance group innovation and performance. Pro tip: don't leave them on your boss' desk chair. 4. The Lego Group got its start in 1932. Following a fire in founder Ole Kirk Christensen’s woodworking shop, he started making toys out of surplus lumber, ditching the carpentry gig and dedicating his time to a whole lineup of wooden piggy banks, cars, trucks, and houses. It wasn’t until 1947 that they even began producing the trademark interlocking plastic bricks, and sales were initially very disappointing. 5. It would take 40 billion bricks to make a column high enough to reach the moon. Or approximately the number of crucial pieces you lost under the couch as a child. Either way you skin it, that's a lot of bricks. 6. The minifig didn’t debut until 1975.

And they looked pretty different than they do today; originally, they didn’t have faces, arms, or a gender. 7. There is a secret underground fireproof vault at the company headquarters in Billund, Denmark. It's called LEGO Memory Lane and it contains a model of almost every LEGO set ever made. Think of it as the toy equivalent to the doomsday seed bank in the Arctic circle. 8. The name LEGO comes from the Danish phrase Leg Godt. This means “play well." Coincidentally, it also means “I put together” in Latin. 9. Master Builders are paid to build sets. Yes, there are professional LEGO builders, though applicants must build in front of an audience and judges to prove their prowess, a.k.a: Danish X-Factor. 10. The largest kit ever made was in celebration of the first ever licensed set, Star Wars. It was a giant X-Wing and required 5.3 million bricks, taking over 17,000 hours to build. 11. Brick art is a booming industry. Artist Nathan Sawaya left his job as an attorney in 2004 and fully dedicated his time to building badass LEGO sculptures.

He's since gone on to exhibit work all around the world, is commissioned by charities, companies, and celebs, and regularly sells pieces for six figures and up. He also owns more LEGO bricks than any other single individual: 1.5 million. 12. There are solid 14K gold LEGO bricks floating around. From 1979 through 1981, they gave these out to long-serving employees as a token of appreciation, which today are worth around $15,000. Like all other extremely rare and weird things, they come up for sale on eBay from time to time. Joe McGauley is a senior editor for Supercompressor where he heads up Home coverage and red hair-having.On Sale: Selected Sets Reduced At Big W While selected sets sales are never the best option for a sale I’m glad to see some discounts on The LEGO Batman Movie sets from Big W. This catalogue also features a range of other sets on sale (and some that aren’t technically on sale, just new). The sale starts tomorrow (March 2nd) and runs until March 15th 2017.

It’s not up on the Big W website just yet but you can view the catalogue for yourself here. 41230Batgirl Batjet ChaseDC Super Hero Girls$28.00$34.99$6.9920% 41235Wonder Woman Dorm RoomDC Super Hero Girls$28.00$34.99$6.9920% 70900The Joker Balloon EscapeThe LEGO Batman Movie$19.00$22.99$3.9917% 70901Mr. Freeze Ice AttackThe LEGO Batman Movie$29.00$34.99$5.9917% 70905The BatmobileThe LEGO Batman Movie$75.00$99.99$24.9925% 70908The ScuttlerThe LEGO Batman Movie$115.00$149.99$34.9923% On Sale: Selected Sets On Sale At Target Target seems to be tempting people with a few little discounts at the moment. On Sale: Buy 1, Get 1 Half Price At Toys R Us Is there anything better than a nice broad LEGO sale. Something that gives you a discount on whatever it is that you are after. One of those sales just happens to kick off at Toys R Us tomorrow. From Wednesday March 1st until Tuesday March 14th 2017 Toys R Us are offering a “Buy 1, get 1 half price” deal on all LEGO.

The offer doesn’t have any mentioned exclusions, so if it’s LEGO it should be on sale. This offer works out to 25% off if you are buying two identically priced items. As always if you are buying differently priced items the cheapest one will be half price. Finally – you may need to do multiple transactions to maximise your savings; for example buying two $100 sets in one transaction and then two $20 sets in a separate transaction would be $180 while doing it all in one transaction would be $220. Thanks to Jamie for making sure I didn’t miss this. On Sale: 10% Off At eBay This is one of those sales that will take a little bit of work to find a good deal, but if there is something that you’ve had your eye on at eBay this is your chance to get it a little cheaper. Using the code C10 you can get 10% off everything at eBay when you spend $75 or more. This code is valid from now (February 27th) until 11:59pm AEST on March 2nd 2017. As always when you are looking at eBay be sure to check the value of what you are buying and don’t forget to factor in postage costs.

Head over to eBay and have a look around. Batman LEGO Dimensions Pre-Order Offer From EB Games Unfortunately the LEGO Batman Movie Story Pack for LEGO Dimensions has suffered the same fate as the film itself, with release being delayed until March 30th. To ease the pain slightly EB Games are offering a deal for anybody that pre-orders before release. If you pre-order the LEGO Batman Movie story pack you will receive the Excalibur Batman Fun Pack for free. The EB price for the story pack is $79.99 and their price on the Fun Pack is $24.99.  For the sake of comparison the previously released Story Packs are currently $69 at Big W, while fun packs are $22. Those prices make the EB offer look pretty good. Thanks to Wade for sending this through. Assembly Square In Stock At Dreamworld I know that there were a few people specifically asking about this set, so I am pleased to let you all know that I received an email from the Dreamworld LEGO Store manager informing me that 10255 Assembly Square is now in stock.

If you want to get one of these sets immediately (and live close to the store) here is your chance. I wasn’t given stock numbers but there is a good chance that stock will move quickly. There are also other new sets in stock but I don’t have a full list. On Sale: Selected Sets Reduced At Kmart The latest Kmart catalogue is all about fitness and not LEGO. Luckily the good people at Kmart got in touch and let me know that they do have a few LEGO offers on. Most of the items on the list are advertising their new stock at the regular price, but there are a few sets that are genuinely on sale. The discounts run from today (February 23rd) until March 1st 2017. The flyer was emailed to me directly so I don’t have a link, but you can see the list of sets included below. 70348Lance's Twin JousterNexo Knights$20.00$29.99$9.9933% 70906The Joker Notorious LowriderThe LEGO Batman Movie$88.00$89.99$1.992% 70901Mr. Freeze Ice AttackThe LEGO Batman Movie$34.00$34.99$.993%

Well LEGO have just activated the product page for the set… The Australian RRP will be $349.99 when the set is released April 1st. There may also be a VIP pre-release for this set in March. On Sale: 20% Off Two or More Items At Myer Following on from last week’s sneaky 20% off sale Myer are once again offering 20% off – this time with a bit of a catch. From today (February 22nd) until February 28th 2017 you can get 20% off at Myer when you buy two or more items. Unfortunately this offer excludes LEGO Minifigures and The LEGO Batman Movie sets. I am unsure if this is an in-store offer or online only. The terms on the website don’t make that clear;
