Don’t worry if your child has never seen the Lego Movie – each setting is self explanatory and full of great visual ideas to spur their imaginations. The Lego Movie: 5 week class, Sundays 1:00 – 2:30, 1/8, 1/15, 1/29, 2/5, 2/12 cost $120 This class is at Lark Cafe, 1007 Church Ave and is for kids aged 5 to 9 (on request we can accomodate 4 yr-olds who are experienced with lego and/or have an older sibling in the class) The Double Decker Couch(es) afloat on the ocean KensingtonLegoClass will be at the PS130 Bazaar this Saturday selling Lego Christmas trees. Below is an instruction video showing how to build them. Upcoming classes: All classes are drop off, I’ll enroll people who can do the full session first and then if there is space you can sign up for individual dates at $25/class. Your child will bring home one Lego build each week. Dinosaurs: 3 week class, Sundays 10:30 -12:00, 12/4, 12/11, 12/18, cost $70 This class in is my apartment at Albemarle Rd and E5th St (we have a cat) and is for kids aged 6 to 11, with preference given to returning students who’ve built with us before.

We’ll start by building a dinosaur museum, complete with skeletons of a T-rex, Velociraptor and a Pteranodon, then our dinosaur expert minifigures will use a time machine to travel back in time to visit living versions of the museum dinosaurs, plus a few others. We’ll also recreate the classic landscapes of the dinosaur period complete with volcanoes. Harry Potter: 4 week class, Sundays 10:30-12:00, 1/8, 1/15, 1/29, 2/5 cost $95 This class in is my apartment at Albemarle Rd and E5th St (we have a cat) and is for kids aged 7 to 11, with preference given to returning students who’ve built with us before. This class is loosely designed around the first Harry Potter book/movie. We’ll build Diagon Alley where Harry can go shopping for school supplies. Then he and his friends will ride the Hogwarts express to school. We’ll build Hogwarts of course – dividing it up into individual projects – the Great Hall, Gryffindor Tower, Hagrid’s Hut, a potions classroom, the greenhouse for Herbology and anything else that we think of.

Finally we’ll recreate the series of traps and challenges that Harry and his friends pass through to find the Sorceror’s Stone – including a giant (from minifigure persective) chess set. This class is at Lark Cafe, 1007 Church Ave and is for kids aged 5 to 9 (on request we can accomodate 4 yr-olds who are experienced with lego and/or have an older sibling in the class) Each week we’ll pick a particular scene from The Lego Movie and recreate it: Construction Site, Wild West, Cloud Cuckoo Land and Octan Tower all feature, with builds including Tipper Truck, Portapotty, Bad Cop Car, Cactus, Cloud, Duck, Doubledecker Couch, Think Tank, and many more. I’ve just set the dates for the next batch of Lego at Lark classes. Let me know if you’d like to sign up. Saturdays from 12:00 – 1:30 drop off class for kids aged 4 – 9 (limited number of spaces for 4 yr-olds) Japanese Garden (loosely based on Brooklyn Botanical Garden) Over the course of two classes we’ll build a Cherry blossom tree esplanade, a pagoda, a zen rock garden, a Tori (ceremonial archway) and a lake with turtles, stepping stones and ornamental arched bridges.

5/7, 5/14, 5/21, 5/28 This four week class starts in the forest biome where Steve (or Alex) starts out to explore the Minecraft world. Along the way s/he’ll build his own house, encounter animals (we’ll build wolves, sheep, pigs, chickens and cows), and other MOBs (villager, creeper, spider), go mining (we’ll build a mine, minecart and tracks) and teleport through portals to the nether. If most of the above doesn’t make sense to you because your lego-lover doesn’t play Minecraft don’t worry – it’s still a fun class for those with only a passing familiarity with Minecraft. In essence we build a forest, houses, farms, a mine and a big underground cave full of lava. Price: Japanese Garden – 2 weeks – $50, Lego Minecraft – 4 weeks – $95, sign up for both for $140. UPDATE: This session is filled. Look out for our next session coming in April. New series of drop off classes starting 2/27 at Lark on Saturdays from 12 noon to 1:30. The classes are suitable for kids aged 4 through 9.

The full session of 6 classes costs $140. If we don’t fill it with students who want to attend all 6 then we will also register kids for blocks of two classes going by theme (ie the 2 batman classes, or the 2 pirate classes etc), cost $50 for 2 classes. These classes will be taught by Erik, 2/27 Batman 1– build the Batcave, complete with computer arrays, hi-tech jail cell for villains, and Batcar. 3/05 Batman 2 – put together a small town with bad guys and police to chase them with Batman’s help. Finally a super villain with a freezy ray will attack the the town and Batman will take to the air in his batflyer to capture him. 3/12 Pirates 1 – build a small Pirate ship with Crows Nest, ships wheel and pirate flag. Arm it with a cannon and it’s ready to set sail in search of adventure 3/19 Pirates 2 – We’ll build treasure chests and then make islands on which to bury them. The pirates have to watch out for the floating seaweed and the giant crabs though.

3/26 Underwater adventure 1 – Our mini-figures suit up and head underwater in a mini-submarine to encounter the creatures of the deep, the seahorses are friendly but watch out for the sharks. 4/2 Underwater adventure 2 – Travelling in a larger submarine this week we tackle a robo-stingray and an anglerfish. Lego at Lark – Pizza Shop Saturday 12/12, 12:30 – 2pm drop off class for ages 4-8, $20 In this class each child will build their own pizza shop, complete with a brick oven, display counter, pizzas and seating area. Builds: Tatoouine House, Podracer, Pit Droid Week 2: Mos Eisley Space Port: week 2 finds us still on Tatoouine but preparing to leave. We’ll combine last week’s village with the official Lego Mos Eisley Cantina to make a city, then build a spaceport. Each child will build their own starfighter, but leaving the planet will prove dangerous as we run into a squadron of TIE fighters and have to battle our way to open space. Builds: Starfighter, Tie Fighter Week 3: Coruscant: This week we are at the heart of the empire, building the tall towers of the city-planet. We’ll build speeder cars for our minifigures. Then we go Clone Wars as the city comes under attack from a force of droids. Week 5: Endor: Amid the giant trees of this forest planet we’ll build an Ewok village, with catapults for the Ewoks to defend themselves against the Stormtroopers on their speeder bikes.
