Our friends over at PromoBricks has found an image of the January 2017 LEGO Store Calendar. I’ll upload a higher quality of it when it becomes available. Here are the more notable things that will be going on in the month. Not surprisingly, it’s mainly focused on The LEGO Batman Movie as the rest of the wave will be available at the beginning of the month. December 27-January 15 – Free The LEGO Batman Movie Mini Batwing polybag with purchases of $35 or more. January 16-31 – FREE LEGO Nexo Knights Knighton Rider polybag with a Nexo Knights purchase. January 1 – The LEGO Creator Assembly Square (10255) will become available for purchase. January 3-4 – The VIP Monthly Mini Model Build will be a Narwhal. January 14 – Winter Igloo Building Event January 17 & 24 – Technic Tuesday January 21 & 28 – LEGO Life MeetingSean Kenney uses LEGO toys to create I have never been to a LEGO Store, and I am hoping to go to one soon. I was wondering if anyone knew how much bricks cost at the LEGO Store?

I want to buy some minifigs and some bricks. Do they sell the bricks by pound, or price per brick, or something else? minifigures shopping lego-store pick-a-brick The most common way to buy bricks from LEGO stores is by filling up a PaB cup: There are two sizes of cups and occasionally other containers that can be filled during certain promotions. The large cup is $15.99 USD and the small cup is $8.99 USD currently. This isn't advertized, but you can also buy bricks in the boxes that they are shipped to the store in. These are $100 USD. LEGO stores also typically allow you to build your own custom Minifigs. These include legs, torso, head, headgear, and an accessory. These are currently 3 for $9.99 USD. Pick-a-brick is a pretty cost effective to get bricks, in my experience. Prices will vary by your locale, of course, but I have one data point. For a 17 EUR PAB cup, I got around 100 EUR worth of bricks using BrickLink's average price. Since the average price is often above the median, and the median is not shown on the page, I instead recalculated using the price of the lowest lot with sufficient bricks (so if my cup contained 20 of part X I used the price of the cheapest X lot with >= 20 qty) an still the value was around 42 EUR.

Lego store at Rockefeller Center We're still not sure how New Jersey and Long Island got Lego stores before us, but it no longer matters: Manhattan's very first Lego store has opened in the middle of Rockefeller Center. Upon entering the vibrant-yellow, two-floor space, children will most likely race past the plastic-brick, Art Deco tributes to Rock Center and head straight to the giant Pick-a-Brick wall, where they can stock up on Legos in every imaginable color and size ($8 for all you can fit in a small cup; $15 for a large).

While kids are sure to go gaga over the more than 300 sets for sale—including toddler-friendly Duplos, hard-to-find Belville sets for girls and elaborate Star Wars models that require a degree from MIT to figure out—nostalgic parents will appreciate the 50 NYC Lego scenes displayed in shadow boxes on the walls. In addition to classics like ticker-tape parades and carriage rides through Central Park, there are a number of "you gotta live here to get it" creations—think an egg cream with a pastrami sandwich. At the Master Builder Bar on the mezzanine level, little ones can play games on computers and get model-building instructions. And we're pretty sure the birthday party space will become one of the hottest places for 6-year-old celebrations. To celebrate the grand opening, four Lego Master Builders will be creating a 16-foot-tall Big Apple right outside the store from Tuesday, June 29, through Thursday, July 1. The coolest part: Kids are invited to lend a hand.Mon--Sat 10am--8pm, Sun 11am--7pm.

Home Country Denmark Copenhagen The next best thing to Legoland is this flagship store, which has exclusive sets to sell, including some rare classic issues. There's a large play area and a Pick-A-Brick Wall for selecting the piece of your choice to buy in bulk, rather like shopping for Nespresso pods. But what about the joys and wonders of exploring a library or a bookstore via a Lego model or recreation? Here’s a roundup of some of the coolest Lego libraries and bookstores from around the bookternet.

Before showing off the actual, based-on-real-life libraries and bookstores that have had their likenesses modeled in Lego form, let’s look at an entirely made-up Lego library. Remember Joe Hardenbrook — Mr. Library Dude — who brought us these awesome mini-fig librarians? He took his idea a little further to offer up a fictitious Lego Library: In order to put his Lego Librarians to work, he had to develop the library. It’s complete with not only books, but a computer lab, a story time area (check out the librarian giving story time in a full-blown chicken suit), an intoxicated patron lying on library furniture, and more. Joe’s library is by far one of the most accurate depictions of a public library I’ve seen, Lego or otherwise. To celebrate the 100th anniversary of St. Louis Public Library’s Central Library, the Gateway Lego Users Group built an impressive replica of the building out of 20,000 blocks. It took them 130 hours. A few additional photos of their creation can be seen here.

The legendary bookstore Powell’s created their own Lego store to celebrate a sale on their Lego books. Check out the inside: There are so many happy readers inside this Lego store. You can find out a little more about the model and who helped the Powell’s team build it on their Facebook page (along with some more photos). Via Flickr user Jeff Stvan, here’s a Lego model of the Half Price Bookstore in Northwest Dallas, Texas. Even though we can’t see what’s going on inside the store, the details on the outside are fantastic: check out the marquee with the events listed, as well as the air conditioner repair person on the roof. Let’s take a quick trip to Europe, shall we? More specifically, let’s go to Sweden. Check out Flickr user minkowsky‘s model of the Stockholm Public Library, complete with a man who brought his cat along. A peek inside the Stockholm Public Library in Lego reveals setup of rounded book cases along the inside of the library, as well as a busy browsing collection that appears to be pretty well used.

Name that central library! If your guess is Detroit Public Library, you’d be right. This creation, by Jim Garrett, was created as part of a series of Detroit buildings. Stratford Public Library in Canada saw its likeness in Legos, which was assembled by one of their own staff members as a way to honor a retiring CEO. Inside the Stratford Public Library, it looks like there’s story time going on, as well as a nap in the back offices by one of the staff members. This impressive Lego rendition of the Denver Public Library was put together by Imagine Rigney of the Imagine Build Zone as part of the Colorado Governor’s Mansion Holiday Tour in 2010. The entire library and all of the different architectural features (and its impressive size!) can be seen in this Flickr set, but perhaps this is my favorite part of the scene: There is a hooligan hanging out in the public art sculpture on the library grounds — and security is doing his best to get the guy down.

Finally, this might be the Lego library to trump all Lego library creations: This is an overview of the Lego-fied version of Charlevoix Public Library in Charlevoix, Michigan, finished earlier this year. It was a commissioned project built by Paul Vermeesh, who explains on his Flickr site that it took over 5,000 bricks and one and a half months to build. He worked from the library’s actual blueprints and added his own twists. The Lego library permanently resides at the library for all to enjoy. Although we never get to see the inside of the library, the outside is spectacular: That’s the children’s wing of the library. There’s the book drop that patrons can drive up to (or, technically, where the mini figs can drop off their books in their Lego cars). And here’s a look at the profile of the library from all four sides. On his Lego MOC page, you can read even more about Vermeesh’s process in creating the library, as well as see a ton more images of this impressive Lego creation.
