It’s been two weeks since the Maze set was released, and some amazing custom mazes have been popping up in various places.  I thought I’d highlight just a few that I really liked. I’m really excited to see people embracing the customization aspect of the set, as this was one of the core components of my original idea, and I can’t wait to see what else people come up with! Just today, /u/Marcus_Aurelius2 posted this awesome Benny/Classic Space themed maze over on reddit.  I love the use of flexible hoses for part of the track, the elevation changes and the extension of the theme to the frame itself. John Stephens create this wonderful factory themed maze. The factory/industrial aesthetic is bang on, with some great usage of stickers and printed pieces. Some great elevation changes on this one too, and I especially love the micro scaled equipment. He even posted a YouTube video of it in action. I’ve seen a couple of Star Wars themed mazes, but this one by Flickr user chun-wei Cheng is particularly nice.

It features a tonne of great decorative elements, including a micro scaled AT-AT, X-Wing, TIE Fighter, Death Star, Sail Barge and Sarlac Pit. There are just so many great details to look at! Instagram user brick_rhodes created this nicely detailed golf themed maze. It features a pretty interesting game mechanic. The ball starts in a shallow depression, and you have to tilt the maze quickly to get the ball out and take a ‘shot’, just like teeing off at a real golf course. You can see it in action in the video he posted. Lego golf themed maze! Check out my YouTube video, link in bio! A photo posted by @brick_rhodes on Apr 4, 2016 at 9:51am PDT This maze, by /u/Yifkong, is particularly interesting in that is has a couple of cars that roll back and forth, and you can use them to transport the ball. A really interesting game mechanic that I am looking forward to trying out myself at some point. This Christmas is set to be the biggest year for toy sales in four years after must-have loom bands, Panini stickers and Lego figures set tills ringing.

Sales of toys in Britain are up 6 per cent on last year, according to analysts NPD Group – the best result for the industry since 2010. Three toys related to Frozen are among the year’s top 10 sellers, with sales currently stronger than they were after the film’s initial release. The figures come as the Toy Retailers Association released its annual DreamToys list, which includes merchandise from the Disney blockbuster Frozen, the £39.99 Vtech Kidizoom Smart Watch, the £58.99 My Friend Cayla doll and collectable Minecraft figures, which cost from £7.99. Also making the top 12 are Bop It! Beats which combines the original game with songs from popular artists, the £19.99 Little Live Pets Bird Cage, the £44.99 Nerf Demolisher 2-in-1 and the £80 Lego Movie spaceship. Before The LEGO Movie hit theaters in February, LEGO said that there were no plans at that time to continue the LEGO Movie theme past 2014. But that was before The LEGO Movie actually hit theaters and became insanely, outrageously successful and sent crowds of customers to the LEGO Stores like never before!

So, yeah–LEGO has clearly rethought their stance and LEGO Movie 2015 sets are on the way! And the set most likely to be a huge seller brings together some of the most beloved characters and concepts from The LEGO Movie–it’s the LEGO Double Decker Couch 70818 set! LEGO obviously wasn’t planning to expand the LEGO Movie sets for 2015 until the last minute, which would explain why in January 2015 we’ll get a selection of three smaller 2015 LEGO Movie sets that contain a lot of recycled minifigures and accessories. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, though, as many of the returning LEGO Movie minifigures and vehicles/furniture are currently expensive and/or hard-to-find on the market! Of the three new sets, the best example of this is the 70818 LEGO Double-Decker Couch set. Almost everything in this set either been released before or is in a slightly modified version (such as the new facial expressions on some of the minifigures). I love the eyes closed/open smile face on the new LEGO Benny minifigure, and it’s great to finally get a LEGO Benny the Spaceman minifigure in a set that costs less than $99!

Benny’s inclusion here is going to make a lot of kids happy! In addition to Benny, LEGO 70818 includes minifigures of Emmet, Ghost Vitruvius, President Business (looking surprisingly friendly!) and a Unikitty with new quizzical/pouty face plates. The two non-minifigure items in this set are the LEGO Emmet’s Car vehicle and the infamous LEGO Double Decker couch build. Emmet’s Car was previously only available as an exclusive free build at Toys R Us stores twice in 2014, but both times the crowds were wild and many people went home disappointed that there weren’t enough LEGO Movie Emmet’s Car sets to go around. Well, it won’t be free in 2015, but as part of LEGO 70818, everyone can finally give Emmet a car to drive around it! It’s also a very nice move on LEGO’s part to make the lovably ludicrous LEGO Double-Decker Couch itself available again for a low price, as I imagine most kids (and adults!) who wanted this may not have wanted to buy the awesome (yet immensely expensive) $250 LEGO Metal Beard’s Sea Cow set to get it.

The LEGO Movie Double-Decker Couch 70818 set is scheduled for release in January 2014 and contains 197 pieces. I’ll post an update here and to the Bricks and Bloks Facebook page once the set shows up in stores or online for sale, so stay tuned if you’re planning to continue your LEGO Movie collection in 2015! And thanks to just2good for debuting these images on his YouTube channel! What do you think of the 70818 Double-Decker Couch LEGO Movie set, LEGO fans?
