LEGO Ultra Agents is a series of build-able kits based around a secret agent theme. This year a new related iOS app uses special bricks in the sets to interactive with and unlock special elements. Of particular interest to families, this provides a nice cross over experience from the physical play of the bricks to virtual play in the app. It also exercises the imagination of young players in new directions as both the story and interactions expand with the new bricks. Because the app can accurately read the position of the special bricks when they are placed on the screen it can task the player with building specific physical constructions of different shapes. When the player incorporates the bricks in the right position and places them on the screen further interactions and sections of the game unlock. In this way the brick constructions can be used as secondary game controllers in novel ways. Other sets recently unveiled include both LEGO Jurassic World and Marvel Age of Ultron, both of which have a related LEGO video-game coming soon.

View more information »Ultra Agents is an action theme released in the second half of 2014. It has received two further waves in 2015. The theme, which is centered on espionage, features the Ultra Agents using futuristic technology and vehicles to fight against disaster-themed villains that are terrorizing Astor City.

The Ultra Agents theme is the first espionage-based playtheme to be introduced since Agents 2.0 in 2009. Unlike the Agents and Agents 2.0 themes, which featured fairly realistic-looking, though high-tech, vehicles for the agents, Ultra Agents features vehicles and technology that are much more futuristic. An additional feature of the Ultra Agents theme is the introduction of a free augmented reality app related to the sets. Each set in the theme features one main vehicle, except for Toxikita's Meltdown, operated by either the Ultra Agents or villain faction, with the opposing faction contending with the vehicle on foot or with less prominent vehicles or contraptions. 70163 Toxikita's Toxic Meltdown is the only set with a prominent immobile structure, a laboratory. In the 2014 wave, the Ultra Agents wear black suits, while in 2015, the agents have printing depicting armour over their suits. The agents wield white weapons, including white versions of the same launchers introduced in the Star Wars line in 2014, which can shoot studs if one pushes down on their triggers.

The studs shot by these blasters are transparent orange. In contrast with this, the colourscheme of the agents' vehicles primarily involves black and transparent blue, with the transparent blue visible in places like wheel hubcaps and windshields. In the 2014 wave, the villains' vehicles feature no uniting colourscheme, though they are themed after disasters, such as hurricanes or earth tremors. In the 2015 wave, the villains are still themed, though no longer after disasters, and a lack of an overarching colourscheme remains. The 2015 sets contain "App Bricks", however, designed based on the villain's theme. The power bricks consist of multiple black 1x1 bricks with studs on two opposing sides, all part of a single construct containing other pieces to represent the villain's theme. These will be used in conjunction with an app, though whether it's the same app as before and what the feature will be is currently unconfirmed. But as a natural extension of some of the more original building toys from the 80s and 90s, it's a nice change that lets the designers stretch their creativity a bit. LEGO brought Ultra Agents to Android last summer, and now they've brought the sequel as well. As with the first Ultra Agents title, this is more of an "interactive comic book" than a conventional video game. Ultra Agents: Antimatter has a tongue-in-cheek story in the style of James Bond's more flamboyant movies. In between the animated panels you'll play LEGO-themed minigames to build vehicles or use gadgets.

The story is presented in bite-sized episodes, with characters carrying over from the other Ultra Agents mobile and console games. Like nearly all of LEGO's Android titles, this one is free to download and has no in-app purchases. That's always a great thing to see for games that are obviously aimed at kids, avoiding the possibility of children spending their parents' money without permission. LEGO Ultra Agents Antimatter works on any Android 4.0+ device, though the description recommends tablets over smartphones.Piano Melody Pro and RE-VOLT Classic 3D are this week's 10 cent dealsGet a Samsung Gear Fit2 for $100 from Verizon ($80 off)Get a BlackBerry Priv for just $279.99 ($320 off) on eBaySave $35 when you buy a Google Home and Chromecast or Chromecast Audio [Update: $50 at Verizon in all colors] Get a UE ROLL 2 Bluetooth speaker for just $49.99 ($50 off) from Amazon What's your "installed applications" count?
