.uk or call 01924 848806.Organisers of a small Lego show in Exeter city centre were left stunned when nearly two and a half thousand people turned up to see it.Darren Smith, 40, helped organise Saturday's West Country Brick Show at Exeter Phoenix with pals Lewis Aylmer, Marc Reid and Simon Pickard. The room they booked out at the city centre venue holds 200 visitors. So when thousands turned up, some families were left waiting in a two hour long queue stretching from the venue to the High Street. The locals, with friends and family volunteering to lend a hand, had only expected around 700 people to turn up. Despite underestimating Exeter's appetite for Lego, Darren says people have been understanding about the long waits to get inside."We went in not knowing what the reception would be, it was our first event and we hired a space we could afford. In hindsight we would have sold the tickets first, we just did not know how popular it was going to be.The final scores on the doors tallied up a whopping 2,400 visitors.

That means that if each Lego fan who passed through the doors of the Phoenix on Saturday was a Lego piece, you'd be able to build nearly two Millennium Falcon's out of them."I cannot say enough about friends and family who helped as volunteers, they were amazing. And the queue certainly did a lot of good for businesses in town. There were coffee shops selling water and other drinks to people in the queue."There were comments about how we should have chosen Westpoint to hold the event, but we are just four families and it was never meant to be a big, corporate event."Our initial idea was that this would be a local show to show friends and family our hobby and passion. We wanted it to be as cheap and accessible as possible, which is why we kept the prices really low.Darren brought Lego from his website Gizmocom to sell. He added that he "didn't take much home with him afterwards.""Because of a family emergency I haven't been able to look at the admin and financial fallout from the event.
