Map Fix: Visualize Your DC Neighborhood as a Lego Set in Google Maps Screencap via Brick Street View If livening up D.C. street maps with neon, Tron-style color schemes or changing its Metrorail lines into a game of Pac-Man haven't been enough to refresh the city's look for you recently, perhaps you would like to visualize what the District would look like if it were made out of Lego bricks. Thanks to one innovative tinker and his use of Google Maps, this is now something that is possible. The project is called "Brick Street View," and it's the work of Stockholm-based developer and map geek Einar Öberg. It's not high-res and comprehensive, but for a map that automatically renders Google Maps and Street View imagery as Lego constructions, it's not bad at all. Öberg used a variety of tools for the map, including LDraw, BRIGL and GSVPanoDepth. The final product works better with some landscapes than others, but will render an occasional landmark in impressive detail – and it even populates park areas with Lego-style trees and shrubbery, as well as Lego vehicles on the streets.

It would be great to see this turned into some kind of Minecraft-style collaborative platform where creative types could help build out more detailed versions of landmarks that aren't as prominent as the White House. A full-on Lego version of the J. Edgar Hoover Building, for instance, would be pretty sweet. Or how about a Lego version of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial? The list goes on, but there is already more than enough here to keep you entertained. The announcements were made at the Time Warner investor conference in Burbank — a curious choice, as each of these films could have dominated a day's news cycle — but clearly Time Warner wanted to present a united message, including the announcement that HBO would soon be available as a standalone streaming service. For starters, the studio confirmed the dates for three Harry Potter spinoffs, based on J.K. Rowling’s original story and screenwriting debut Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. The films are set for 2016, 2018 and 2020, with David Yates, who steered the original franchise's final installments, directing. In addition, three Lego movies will also debut over the next four years: Ninjago in 2016, directed by Charlie Bean; The Lego Batman Movie in 2017, directed by Chris McKay; and The Lego Movie 2 in 2018. Finally, 10 new DC Comics movies will be released between 2016 and 2020, including: Justice League Part One, DC's major team-up following Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, will also star Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill and be directed by Zack Snyder Suicide Squad, directed by David Ayer, for 2016 Wonder Woman, starring Gal Gadot, for 2017 The Flash, starring Ezra Miller, for 2018 Aquaman, starring Jason Momoa, for 2018 Shazam, with Dwayne Johnson set to star as the quasi-villain Black Adam, for 2019

Wonder Woman’s iconic invisible jet is about to reappear thanks to an upcoming 2015 Lego set. The jet was spotted in the German version of the official Lego product catalog. It will be a part of a DC Comics Super Heroes set called Gorilla Grodd Goes Bananas and looks to be made appropriately out of mostly clear Lego. Toys R Us currently has the set listed on its website, where a description states that the jet “features an opening cockpit, invisible flame exhausts and 2 spring-loaded missiles” and “measures over 2″ high, 6″ long and 8″ wide.” Here is the full product description:

Gorilla Grodd is causing havoc in Gotham City as he seeks his morning banana fix! The gigantic gorilla is leaping on the truck, sending crates of bananas flying and almost breaking the vehicle in half. Hurry to save the terrified driver with Batman™ and his awesome Bat-Mech. Launch a triple LEGO® Super Heroes counter-attack by firing the net and stud shooters. Face off against mighty Gorilla Grodd with The Flash, evading the evil beast’s grabbing fists and Captain Cold and his Devastating Ice Shooter. Swoop unseen into battle with Wonder Woman in her Invisible Jet with spring-loaded missiles, then send Batman™ leaping off the top of the Mech with the Super Jumper to bring down Gorilla Grodd! Includes 4 minifigures with assorted weapons and accessories: The Flash, Wonder Woman, Batman™ and Captain Cold, plus a Gorilla Grodd figure. Photo via Lego Product Catalog This jet may be a bit more visible than that spoof Lego invisible jet created by one dad, but it’s still nice to see it as part of an official set.
