Warning: LEGO lovers, the above video contains hammering, taping, gluing, and cutting of LEGO pieces. R.I.P. legal LEGO connections. LEGOs are so much fun for kids, and adults—looking at you, people who enjoy a cold beer and a sweet build—because they allow us to bring beautiful, wild creations from out of our imaginations into the real world. Most of the time, these creations are fun to look at, but not very functional. This is not the case with Peter Sripol’s LEGO airplane however, because it can fly! Sploid picked up on the video posted above, which details Sripol’s heroic, Howard Hughesian quest to build what he deems “the world’s first LEGO airplane.” And after a lot of building and rebuilding, trial and error, and bored dog moments caught on camera (seriously, the faces Sripol’s dog makes are just lovely), Sripol and his friend—who should really have their own Calvin and Hobbes-esque comic—manage to get their big plastic bird up in the air.

The LEGO plane, which uses a couple of base plates for wings making the whole build fairly large, fails on its first attempt, but manages to take flight on its second (occurring around 10:15 in the video). After the successful launch, Sripol exclaims, “Oh no, it’s flying, no way! It’s flying, holy crap, it’s flying!” which we believe are the first words the Wright Brothers emitted when their plane first took off (that’s probably not true). Although the plane is shakier than Fry after 99 cups of coffee, it still manages to soar for dozens and dozens of seconds! But considering the plane is made of literal “bricks,” that’s still pretty astounding. What do you think about this LEGO bird? Are you impressed with what is possibly the world’s first functional LEGO airplane, or was your heart broken when you saw the glue come out? Let us know in the comments below! The contraption even launches the plane at the end of the assembly line, sending it off on its maiden test flight. Sacek was hired by Elevation Digital Media in collaboration with Arrow Electronics to design and build this autonomous paper airplane factory, which is controlled by multiple Lego Mindstorms intelligent bricks, and quite a bit of custom code.

It’s not the first Lego paper airplane machine we’ve seen, but Sacek’s design looks far more streamlined and reliable.Arrow Electronics has also posted a behind-the-scenes video showing how parts of the paper airplane folding machine were designed and assembled. But it’s unfortunately not a thorough step-by-step guide, so you can forget about trying to follow along in order to build one for yourself. You’re reading Leg Godt, the blog with the latest Lego news and the best sets on the web. Lego could make a new Red Arrows toy set after a design submitted to its ideas competition has soared in popularity. The toy maker has launched a new ideas section of its website where companies and organisations can submit designs for new Lego sets. Those which receive 10,000 or more "likes" will be considered by Lego for manufacture. Just several weeks after the design for a Red Arrows plane was submitted it became one of the most popular on the site, attracting nearly 10,000 likes.

The Red Arrows are one of the world's premier aerobatic plane teams who put on displays to millions of people every year. The Squadron is famous for performing dynamic loops, rolls, close passes and formation shapes with its nine fast-jets – flying as close as six feet apart at 350mph. Flying distinctive Hawk jets, the team is the public face of the RAF and represent speed, agility and precision. Over 2000 votes in 2 days! If we reach 10,000 LEGO will consider making this Hawk as an official set. /M56Zx102Vm— Red Ten (@RAFRed10) January 20, 2017 The entry is beating a number of other plane models including a Royal Aircraft Factory S.E.5a, one of the most famous British fighter airplane of the World War I. But despite being submitted in 2015 it has only garnered around 2,600 likes. A WW1 German fighter plane Fokker Dr.I was also submitted in 2015 but gained even fewer likes. Two other entries - a Venetian house and a Jeep Wrangler - are also on the verge of hitting the 10,000 likes threshold which means Lego will consider them for manufacture.
