is a unique full-time gifted program that combines a challenging core curriculum with flexible choice offerings to provide highly gifted children the opportunity to ignite their passion for learning. is housed at Oak Hills Elementary to qualifying students across the district.   Students begin the Ignite! program in third grade and move through the program with the same classroom of students through fifth grade. students participate in the Oak Hills learning community through specialists’ classes, lunch, recess, grade level and whole school activities. is the responsibility of the family.offers a complex and accelerated core curriculumcurriculum provides an in-depth exploration of grade level and extended standards with an emphasis on inquiry-based learning. Literacy: Individualized reading instruction is based on student choice and teacher/student goal setting. Language Arts & Social Studies: Thematic instruction is offered using College of William & Mary curriculum from the Center for Gifted Education.




Curriculum is designed specifically for gifted population. Mathematics: Accelerated instruction with small group enrichments are available at each grade level. core math instruction uses math materials one year ahead of grade level peers. Science: Inquiry-based STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) program with an emphasis on hands-on activities. Student choice is integral to the Ignite! Throughout the year, students participate in a variety of small group investigations based on their individual interest. These options vary from year to year depending on student interest and instructor availablility. Some of our more popular choice units include: Lego Robotics, Debate, iMovie, Stock Market Game, Coding, Project Wild, Class Act, Go Green Engineering, CSI and Smart about Art.Choice Unit Video for a full listing of offerings so far. How do I know if my child is eligible for Ignite? Families of eligible second grade students receive a letter of eligibility by March 1st of the child’s second grade year.




This letter contains additional information about the application process. If my child does not receive a letter of eligibility, can we still apply? Families of students who do not receive a letter of eligibility may appeal eligibility status for Ignite! by completing a Home Observation Inventory and an Ignite! These must be submitted by the Ignite! Families are encouraged to contact the Gifted Education Specialist at their child’s school with any questions about the appeal process. Can students enter Ignite! after the program starts in third grade? Limited spots may be available for students wishing to apply to Ignite! after the initial third grade entry point.  Interested families should complete an application and submit it by the application deadline. How are students selected for the Ignite! Students are identified for Ignite! based on standardized testing. Typically, students need to score at the 99th percentile in both ability (using the Cognitive Abilities Tests) and achievement (using the Measure of Academic Progress).

Is transportation to Ignite! is the responsibility of the family. The only exception to this is if a family lives in the Oak Hills bussing attendance area. How do we apply to Ignite?application process is completed online.  Applications for students currently attending a Lakeville Area Public School are accepted between March 1, 2016 and March 31, 2016. Can students from out of district apply to Ignite?Applications for students not currently attending an ISD 194 school are accepted between Jan. 3, 2016 and Feb. 1, 2016. The deadline for consideration is Feb. 1, 2016.  This includes students living within the ISD 194 attendance area, but not attending an ISD 194 school. Copies of current test scores should also be submitted. Additional testing will be provided as needed.  




Students who live within the ISD 194 boundaries will be given first preference for Ignite!
