It was featured in exciting new scenes from Star Wars: The Force Awakens. This latest LEGO version of the Millennium Falcon is crammed with new and updated external features. This includes an even more streamlined and detailed design. The detachable cockpit has space for two minifigures because no pilot should be alone. This kids' play set has dual spring-loaded shooters, sensor dish, ramp and an entrance hatch ideal for imaginary fun. Open the hull plates to reveal even more new and updated details inside, including the main hold with seating area and holochess board. Let’s hit the set reviews off with a bang and do the biggest set in the wave first, the Millennium Falcon (75105). Everyone was excited when the Falcon showed up in the first teaser trailer and we knew it was coming back for Episode VII. Of course, LEGO had to update the 2011 (7965) version so it’ll correspond to the one in the upcoming movie. The new Millennium Falcon (75105) has 1329 pieces and retails for $149.99. There are ten numbered bags, one un-numbered bag of plates, and a bagged instruction booklet with sticker sheet. Be warned, there may be some speculation and minor spoilers in The Force Awakens LEGO set reviews. There are a total of seven minifigures in this set, a Kanjaklub Gang Member, Tasu Leech, Han Solo, Chewbacca, Finn, Rey, and BB-8.
The Kanjiklub Gang are based in Jakku and they are pirates and thugs led by Tasu Leech. It’s also mentioned that the gang somehow uses the Millennium Falcon as a base and that’s why they’re in this set. The gang member has an interesting gray shirt printing with some swirl patterns. On the back of the torso, there’s some pouch printing with straps that go around the front. He has a single-sided head with a patch over one eye. The headpiece is a black bandana of some sort which is actually a swimmer cap. His accessory is a rifle. As mentioned before, Tasu Leech is the leader of the Kanjiklub Gang portrayed by Yayan Ruhian. His torso has some sort of brown armor on both sides. The legs have some printing of a grenade and a holster. He has a double-sided head with a stern look on one side and a angry look on the other. He has the same hair piece as Qui-Gon Jin but in a black color which is the same as Bard from The Hobbit sets. His accessory is a brown Flintlock pistol. Harrison Ford makes his return as an aged Han Solo in The Force Awakens.
He wears a white shirt under a brown jacket. The pants are black with his signature belt blaster holster. He has a double-sided head with a stern look on one side and a smirking expression on the other. The eyebrows and hair on Han are now gray since it has been 30 years after Return of the Jedi. His accessory is his trusty DL-44 blaster. Chewbacca also makes his return in the upcoming movie. LEGO is using the newer coloring that has been used a couple of previous sets. The fur is mostly dark brown with some lighter brown on the face and legs. His accessory is the Bowcaster with a stud shooter implemented into it. A new character introduced to The Force Awakens is Finn played by John Boyega. This is an exclusive minifigure to the Millennium Falcon and it is a very nice one. The torso is the black shirt and tan jacket that we’ve seen him wear in the trailer. He has a double-sided head with a stern look on one side and an angrier look on the other. Finn’s hairpiece is a brand new piece designed for the character.
The accessory is just your typical blaster. Rey is also seen in the trailer, portrayed by Daisy Ridley, and is a scavenger on Jakku. She wears some light blue and tan ragged clothes. She is not exclusive to this set as she is also in the Rey’s Speeder (75099) set. Rey has a double-sided head with a normal look on one side and a sterner look on the other. If you look closely, she has some frekles. Her accessory is a grey blaster. Finally, we have what could be people’s new favorite droid, BB-8. Its main colors are orange and white and it uses the R2 series domed head but the body is now made up of a ball that it rolls on. There are different designs on the four sides of the body. Other than that, there’s nothing too bad about BB-8 except it didn’t roll by itself. If you’ve built the previous Millennium Falcon set, you’ll find that the 2015 version is very similar to it with minor updates here and there. On the exterior, there are a lot more tile pieces used which shows some less studs throughout the top.
Although it doesn’t seem like it when you’re building, I feel there’s a little more greebling in the newer Falcon. The biggest change is to the front part of the ship. The old flick-fire missiles are now gone and the Falcon now implements a couple of spring-loaded missile shooters which you can shoot by pressing down in the equipment access bay made out of 4×4 round plate with hole. The freight loading doors does not flip forward anymore but it now slides forward by the way of a couple of TECHNIC beams. Another update is to the ship’s sensor dish as it has been changed to a rectangular one which is actually a snow plough piece. If you remember, the old dish was destroyed when Lando Calrissian smashed it into a bulkhead while inside the second Death Star. The cockpit stays relatively the same with the previous printed windshield pieces. You still have the rotating quad-laser cannons on top and bottom of the Falcon. The top quad-laser turret can open up to reveal the seating for the lasers.
As with the last Falcon, you can flip open the twelve wedges to get into the interior of the ship. The first thing that your eye may wander to is the new Dejarik board. It is now on a printed shield piece instead of a sticker on a 2×2 round tile. The chairs in the same area are also updated with some cool sticker detailing. The engineering station panel has been switched out to a single seat console with fairly large single sticker. Towards the back, you have the very detailed hyperdrive. It now uses a couple of lavender tiles with a sticker on top of the turbine pieces. Between them is a panel which is also stickered. The smuggling compartment is the same and a minifigure can still fit in there. On the opposite side, you have the boarding ramp where you still can’t walk a minifigure up to the ship due to the low clearance. Below is a comparision shot of the The Force Awakens Millennium Falcon alongside the previous incarnation of the set. As you can see, they are pretty much the same size but note the differences between the two on the exterior and the interior.
Overall, the new LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens Millennium Falcon (75105) is still a good ship given that there wasn’t much change from the previous version. The old ship was a great set and one of my favorites since it was the one that brought me out of my Dark Ages and building the new one gave me some nostalgic feelings. For those who are saying that this set is purely a cash grab by LEGO considering it’s basically the same as the last one, keep in mind that this is for LEGO fans who may not had a chance to pick up the old one. If you do have the old one, you may decide to pass on this given that there isn’t much that’s been done to warrant a purchase. As for me, it was a no-brainer because I absolutely love how the new Millennium Falcon looks. I do appreciate the changes to the front of the ship with inclusion of the spring-loaded missiles and the freight loading doors. The selection of minifigures included in the set are top-notch and I couldn’t really think of anyone else that would be suitable it.
