However, the mechanisms for alginate assimilation remain largely unknown in marine microorganisms. We show here that the genome of the marine flavobacterium Zobellia galactanivorans contains seven putative alginate lyase genes, five of them localized within two clusters comprising additional carbohydrate-related genes.
The transcription of these genes and the alginolytic activity were strongly induced when Z. galactanivorans used alginate as sole carbon source. These clusters were shown to be transcribed as polycistronic mRNAs and thus to constitute operons. Several candidate enzymes were successfully overexpressed in Escherichia coli, purified and their activity tested. Particularly, AlyA1, AlyA4, AlyA5 and AlyA7 are confirmed as active alginate lyases. Zg2622 and Zg2614 are a dehydrogenase and a kinase, respectively, further converting the terminal unsaturated monosaccharides released by alginate lyases into 2-keto-3-deoxy-6-phosphogluconate. In-depth phylogenomic analyses reveal that such alginolytic operons originated from an ancestral marine flavobacterium and were independently transferred to marine proteobacteria and Japanese gut Bacteroides. These bacteria thus gained the capacity to assimilate the main polysaccharide of brown algae, an adaptive advantage in coastal environments but also in the gut microbiota of specific human population.

We had heard about Disney Springs so decided to check it out on our last night. We are glad we did. Easy to get in and parking was free and easy to park. Nice walk around after a big dinner. There are plenty of nice places to...That's right something with Disney in the name is free. Out with the old in with the new. They did a great job of revamping downtown Disney. They even changed the name. I guess thy wanted to start with everything new. I really liked the way they did it. It's bright and airy. Disney springs offers many fine shops and restaurants plus bowling cinema and lots to entertain nice to spend a leisurely day away from the parks will definitely return. I went to Disney Springs in January and February with co-workings and both times we had a blast. There are a lot of restaurants and fun things to do, including free entertainment on the streets.
Both times I went at night so it was busy, but not to crowded. The new parking garages make coming here so much easier. Plenty of great restaurants and things to see. This place has grown up over the years. I enjoyed going on this trip but I can't say I am a fan of the new shopping area. It feels like the Magic dwindled with the addition of "regular" stores. I will go again but with the new stores I just won't have the draw I had before. It's clear that in the Orlando "theme park wars" that Disney, the former Goliath, can't seem to make up its mind what it wants to be when it grows up. Any area resident (and many visitors) would tell you that the days of Pleasure Island were what is today's Disney Springs heydays. But rather than just beef up security, they... Wow how this place has evolved. Its like an upscale lifestyle mall, an entertainment and dining district, and you can ride in a car that drives into the lake and becomes a boat (think James Bond). And the choice or restaurants!
We were sitting in Morimoto Asia enjoying an amazing experience when who walks right up to my table but... Me and my friends went to Disney springs to hang out. The place was easy to find and parking was free at orange lot. The stores naturally were a little over priced, but had some interesting memorabilia. There were many restaurants and multiple places to get desserts. It is a fun place to go with family or friends. Great place for anyone to go, small or big groups. It's getting upgrading more & more each day.
