Skip to Main Content Course offered:  Period 1 & 2  (***Double period class.) Have you ever wondered what goes into creating a yearbook?  Here's your chance to find out!  In this class, you will be responsible for producing and promoting the GALACTIC 5th Grade Yearbook- both a paper copy and a DVD version.  You will be responsible for planning, writing, filming, editing, and producing the yearbooks to sell to the GALACTIC 5th Grade!!  GALACTIC Student Expectations:  Communication, Collaboration, Self-Management Course offered:  Period 3 & 4  (***Double period class) Engineering, programming, teamwork, and problem solving are the major components of this challenge based class.  Students will work in teams of two or three to design, build, and program Lego Mindstorm Ev3 robots capable of completing increasingly complex tasks.  You'll learn to use sensors and write complex code while solving fun and challenging problems.  This is a great course for all skill levels, not just those with Lego Engineering and code experience. 




GALACTIC Student Expectations:  Critical Thinking, Collaboration 20th Century American History: Decades -1950 and Beyond Course offered:  Period 2, 3, 4 Let’s investigate how our country and our lives are different than 60 years ago.  What was school like in the 50’s? Technology in the 60’s? Dance in the 70’s? Music in the 80’s? Life in the future?  We’ll research how politics, art, music, clothing, food and technology have affected our lives in the past and what surprises the future may hold.  GALACTIC Student Expectations:  Communication, Self-Management, Content Dream of having a career in music, but you don’t play a note? Here is your opportunity to create your own music with a computer program that is user friendly. Learn how to “build” a song, mix it with special effects, record your voice, and “burn” the results. GALACTIC Student Expectations:  Creative Thinking, Critical Thinking, Self-Management Was, Is, Will Be Plumes of smoke would rise over the horizon and could be seen for over 470 miles away. 




These man made signals would alert the ancient Chinese of impending attacks, giving warriors time to prepare for battle.  Then came Morse Code, telegraphs, telephones, cell phones… but what will our future in communications bring?  In Was, Is, Will be, our fifth graders will research a variety of past and present topics and use their wildest imaginations to envision the future.  From communication to war tactics, join us to learn from the past and make our future come to life!  GALACTIC Student Expectations:  Communication, Self-Management Course offered:  Period 3 Needing a math challenge?  Tired of practicing your basic multiplication facts for the millionth time.  This class is for you.  Prepare for your future!  Learn the game of Equations and practice math skills to apply to the game.  Many students will use their skills to compete at the Academic Challenge Cup event in March.  For more information about the competition, visit the Gifted Resource Council web page. 




GALACTIC Student Expectations:  Critical Thinking, Content Students who have a natural love of drawing will perfect their skills as they learn new terminology and new techniques for drawing cartoons.  How do you show a character who is excited? Find out in cartooning class!  Here is the chance you've been waiting for to express your creativity.  We will study expressions, animals, movement, and political cartooning.  By the end of this class, you will feel like a professional cartoonist.  GALACTIC Student Expectations:  Creative Thinking, Self-Management, Content Course offered:  Period 1, 2, 3 Protractors, compasses, lines, polygons, coordinate graphs, angles, 3-dimensions, and 2-dimensions all have one thing in common.  They are the tools, ideas, and crafts of geometry.  If you like math that is both in and out of the box this is the class for you.  We'll draw, build, bisect, and design all through math.  GALACTIC Student Expectations: Critical Thinking, Self-Management, Content




Course offered:  Period 1 Love letter and word puzzles?  Are word searches and "Words with Friends" your thing?  Are you an expert at grammar?  Then, this class is for you.   Learn the game of LinguiSHTIKs and practice grammar skills to apply to the game.  GALACTIC Student Expectations: Critical Thinking, Communication, Content In this semester, we will work at applying coding to real world uses.  We will learn to write code to program robotic systems, solve problems, create animation and tell stories, and produce interactive programs.   It doesn’t matter whether or not you took coding before.   Everyone will learn methods programming basics and advanced code alike.   This class requires logical thought and patience and armed with those two things everyone can create amazing code!  GALACTIC Student Expectations:  Creative Thinking, Critical Thinking, Content Course offered:  Period 1, 2 This tragic tale of Shakepeare’s is full of secrets, witches, and fights.




Macbeth is told by a group of witches who claim to see into the future that he will one day be king of Scotland. In order to make that happen he must get rid of the current king….how will he do that? Join our class and find out! In this class we will read, write about, discuss, and watch various versions of this famous play.  GALACTIC Student Expectations:  Critical Thinking, Communication Advanced Nutrition and Fitness Do you want to choose what you learn about nutrition, fitness, and staying healthy?  In this class students will do some fitness activities and pick a research passion project based on their interests about nutrition and ways to live a healthy lifestyle.  Students who took Nu Fit in 4th grade or Nu Fit last semester are welcome in this class, as are, others who have yet to explore this healthy life-inspiring class.  Wear clothing you can easily move in and athletic shoes to help you benefit the most from this class!  Feel free to bring your own water bottle as well. 




GALACTIC Student Expectations:  Communication, Collaboration, Content Law and Government II Course offered:  Period 4 Elections are over, Ambassadors for GALACTIC were elected and NOW it’s time to put some of those ideas into action! In this class, you will learn what elected leaders do after they have won the election. You will learn the major duties, powers, privileges, and limitations of a position of leadership. You will also learn the importance of individuals cooperatively working together to finding solutions to make GALACTIC a better learning environment.  GALACTIC Student Expectations:  Critical Thinking, Collaboration, Communication What does it mean to be “gifted”? How do I take charge of my life? How do I take charge of my education? How do I find friends who are right for me? How can I effectively handle stress? In this class, you will become an expert on a topic that affect Gifted students and then create a product that will first help you and then others to understand your giftedness, how to accept it as an asset (if you haven’t already), and use it to make the most of who you are.
